I was playing a game last night with a friend and my Archon wounded my friend's Marshal. The Huskblade causes instant death, but not because of high strength. My friend claimed that the Adamantine Mantle granted his Marshal Eternal Warrior. As far as I understand the Mantle only prevents instant death against high strength weapons and not other forms of instant death.

Who is right?

The Adamantine Mantle protects against instant death. If it only protected against high str instant death it would specify, which means he is right.

Attention all space marine bashing neckbeards: Nobody cares what you have to say, so stop trying and go cry yourself to sleep.

Uh, it does specify that.

If the weapon inflicts instant death regardless of the model's Toughness (as the huskblade does), then the Adamantine Mantle does nothing.

And, that's what Adamantine Mantle says...

"The character does not suffer Instant Death when wounded by a weapon whose Strength is at least twice the character's Toughness, taking instead a single wound."

Huskblade causes ID to Mantle-wearing Templars.

Now, what would happen if that Templar was wounded by a weapon that was twice the Toughness AND caused ID (S10 Force Weapons/Huskblade)? Technically, he would be immune to ID, even though there is another cause for ID...

In that case, the model would be suffering Instant Death from two sources: from suffering a wound with a Strength double its Toughness AND from the special ability of the weapon. The Adamantine Mantle would protect him from the Insant Death caused by the doubled Toughness, but not from the other source, so Instant Death would still occur.

OT but where'd you get the video in your sig? I really want to see that.

Six mistakes mankind keeps making century after century: Believing that personal gain is made by crushing others; Worrying about things that cannot be changed or corrected; Insisting that a thing is impossible because we cannot accomplish it; Refusing to set aside trivial preferences; Neglecting development and refinement of the mind; Attempting to compel others to believe and live as we do
