Subject: FNP Question?????
|
 |
One Canoptek Scarab in a Swarm

i have been having a MASSIVE argument with some fellow gamers.
it is to do with the conditions in which you get your fnp roll.
in the 40k rulebook it says you do not get your fnp againsed ANY wound that does not allow you your amour save. i think that if a 6+ save gaunt is shot with an ap5 weapon they do not get their amour save. (am i right????)
my fellow gamers say that it is specificaly ap 1 and 2 that ignore fnp and for an ap5 wepon againsed a 6+ save you still get your fnp... (im pretty sure they are wrong)
what are your thaughts on this rule?????

They are wrong. It clearly states that ANY wound caused that would void your armor save also voids FNP. You are right.

Not quite. It says against wounds from which no armor save can ever be taken. And then specifically mentions power fists as an example. Because you can never take an armor save against power weapons.
Just because a 6+ gaunt cannot take an armor save against an AP5 weapon doesn't mean that an armor save can never be taken against an AP 5 weapon.

Here is the chart, ty to ChrisCP for posting it. Your friends are correct the Gaunts get the FNP roll. the rules say you do not get your fnp against ANY wound which no amour saves can ever be taken. Which is different than " you do not get your fnp againsed ANY wound that does not allow you your amour save." ChrisCP wrote:Oooh oooh, I still have the chart. It's ok, I have a chart for this. FNP vs AP - = Yes FNP vs AP 6 = Yes FNP vs AP 5 = Yes FNP vs AP 4 = Yes FNP vs AP 3 = Yes FNP vs AP 2 = No FNP vs AP 1 = No FNP vs Tx2 = No FNP vs Instant Death = No FNP vs Strength (Destroyer) = No FNP vs Power weapons/fists/klaws = No FNP vs No retreat = Yes FNP vs Gets Hot = Yes FNP vs Perils of the warp = No FNP vs Demon Weapon rolls of 1 = No FNP vs Dangerous Terrain = No FNP vs "do(es) not allow armor save(s) to be taken against" = No FNP vs "ignore(s) armor saves" = No FNP vs “with no armor save(s) allowed” = No FNP vs “counts/treated as a power weapon” = No Can't remember the author thou A duplicate topic is still on the first page.

you are actually both wrong, so stubborn.
This is why, when it states that you do not recieve any FNP roll against the weapon that ingores your armor, it is talking under the sub class of meele weapons, not ranged weapons, this is because games workshop cant be bothered writing down every single other meele weapon that can ingore and/or has a special rule that ingores your armor save.
in the thread above i asked the same question, and everybody in the thread said i that was right.
if you actually read the BRB it clearly indicates that the subject swaps from firing weapons into meele weapons/close combat arms.
GW would never have said that ap1 and ap2 ingore your feel no pain, they would have wroten it like thus if your statement is correct and this would have eben INSTEAD of ap1 and ap2 talking about FIRING weapons, not MEELE WEAPONS. so this would have been before the previous ingore armor statement." any shooting attack that has a AP value that would otherwise ingore your armor save you do not recieve the feel no pain benifit when rolling"
I was the other friend arguing aswell, just btw.

You are both wrong; it clearly states that any Wound caused that completely denies armor saves, and AP1, and Ap2(and anything that causes ID). AP3-6/- does not ever deny FNP unless said weapon is also rending and a "6" is rolled to wound(at which point the Weapon becomes AP2 for shooting, and flat disallows Armor saves in CC). Also if a Weapon/Attack does not Cause a "wound" but simply kills your model, you do not get FNP. Dave: no FNP vs Dangerous terrain or perils of the Warp either; neither are which are Shooting, nor CCW wounds.

This is my Rulebook. There are many Like it, but this one is mine. Without me, my rulebook is useless. Without my rulebook, I am useless.
Stop looking for buzz words and start reading the whole sentences.

There have to be a hundred threads on this EXACT same topic...
FNP only negated by wounds FOR WHICH AN ARMOR SAVE MAY NEVER BE TAKEN FOR ANY MODEL IN THE GAME, not just the model in question. Use that chart earlier in the thread as a reference if you have any questions about this ultra clear rule.

Yeh the wording was pretty dodgy, i think they could have done a much better job, and/or an exmple, because it massivily effects games
Good game.
