I've been reading the old Daemonhunter codex because I'm chomping at the bit for the new one. I was reading some of the fluff about the founding of the Grey Knights and it says that they were founded by the emperor during the second founding. Wasn't the emperor "dead" by then? How could he have founded a chapter while he was on the golden throne? The paragraph implied that he was active in the decision to found the Grey Knights so I found this terribly confusing and inconsistent. Am I missing something?

Thanks...

He was on the other "golden throne" when he created the "Tidy Bowl Marines".

The Grey Knights founding started shortly after the Heresy broke out. 8 Space Marines from various legions were gathered by the Sigil and brought before the Emperor during the Seige of terra, after the Emperor said some inspiring stuff the 8 Marines were brought to Titan and became the first Grand Masters of the chapter. Titan was thrown into the warp by the sigil to escape the Heresy. During that time the 8 marines trained recruits that were on Titan when they arrived. During the Second founding, Titan exited the warp and instead of just 8 marines there were 1000 full armed and armored battle brothers who were designated chapter 666.

That is the history of the Grey knights founding in a nut shell.. Sorry in advance for any spelling errors..

I believe it was 20 marines. not 8. Or it could of been 20 people and 8 of them were pysker marines, and the other 12 were loyal soldiers.

8 Marines were sent to Titan to become the first Grand Masters of the Chapter. The 12 regular people that you might be thinking of were gathered to become the founders of the Inquisition and are the ones who helped oversee the breaking up of the legions into chapters and who snuck in chapter 666 into the founding.

Nevermind on that last post. 12 people were brought before the emperor, 8 were sent to titan like I said. The other 4 became the inquisition and did all the stuff I said earlier..

Oh and not all the 8 original marines were pyskers, Garro, Varren, and the guy they pick up at the end of Legion of ONE arent pyskers for sure... So there you go, that should answer your question and give you some updated fluffy goodness about the Grey knights... For more information on the Grey knights origin, flip to pg 6 on the soon to be released Codex lol..

Assuming that Garro, Varren and the rest are actually the Grey Knight founders, although it kinda looks like it. They would probably have been somehow made psychic by the super-shiny geneseed of the Grey Knights though.

Is it possible to implant geneseed into space marines that have already had geneseed in em?

I know this isnt exactly grade A fluff but in dawn of war chaos rising, you find geneseed from fallen marines and can use it on space marine units to make them stronger, going by that id have to assume so.
Although I imagine it heightens things like the risk of succumbing to the black rage or the wulfen curse and would only be attempted by chapters with stable geneseed.

Waiting for my shill money from Spiral Arm Studios

the survivors of the Eisinstein were the founding stock of the GKs.

they weren't all psychic, but they were the last non-psykers to be members of the chapter.

they were sent into seclusion with many psykers found by the sisters of silence and these became the first true GKs.

of the 12 that were presented before the emperor, 8 were Space Marines and became the GKs, the other 4 founded the Inquisition proper.
