When I downloaded the show and saw it was under four hours my first thought was, "oh look, a short episode." Just wrapped up listening to Achievements and it's a good show as usual so far.
As a dad with two young girls (2.5 years and 5 months), I hope I can be a good gamer dad someday like you Russ.

Howdy, my searchfu seems to be weak today. I cant find a write up on Fantasy Crowns, the rpg gaming aid that Rafe mentions at the start of the show. Can someone help a brother out with a link?
As always, I enjoyed the show. Thanks

Everyone that submitted for the Survive contest rocked, especially with the whole theme that everyone seemed to have about losing some family members.
It's too bad that 'Wrath of Ashardalon' didn't work out. I just picked up Castle Ravenloft. It was surprising how a bad set of tiles/encounters and monsters can turn the game into a real slog. Also, character selection seems somewhat important. Not having the right character (read, in most cases for Ravenloft, the cleric), can make things much harder.

Completely unrelated to Episode 76
I just wanted to take the time to put up a post about how awesome the Board game event after Adepticon was. Both Rafe and Craig were awesome and very friendly. Big thanks to the companies that provided the games to play and give away, we had a TON of fun and I think it's really great that you guys did that. Hopefully it'll happen again next year!
Thanks again.

I had wanted to get in on the Survive contest, but just didn't have the time...I thought I had a great idea too, I was gonna mix in a bunch of Susan Sarandon clips to pander to Raef. Kinda glad I didn't around to it, because I'm pretty sure just about all of the entries you played were better than what I would have come up with - great job by all the participants!
Just saw the twitter entry asking for the best episodes from 55-76. That's a hard question, because I'm looking back over the episodes to remind me what they were about...and the problem is it's reminding me of the game that was reviewed or the interview...but not the banter during "Achievements in Gaming", or the topics of "Hollywood Minute" or "Didya Ever Notice", etc. So, I'll do my best. For me, episodes 60 and 73 jump out, because they were about "Battles of Westeros" and "Merchants and Marauders" - and those are the two games that interested me the most, by a long shot. Unfortunately, I only got in my first game of BOW a week ago, and I haven't yet played M&M. For the interviews, I really enjoyed episode 58 (Stonghold Games interview...oh, and that had the "Shogun" review too, which was good) and episode 66 (The David Weber interview). I also found the "Executive Gamer" interview in episode 74 very interesting. So...I don't know if I can pick out an absolute favorite...but those that I listed above definitely jump out.
(Edited out my negative comment...because I think I was kinda "piling on" an issue you guys already knew about in one of the episodes).
Don't know if that helps or not...

Dang.
I finished this episode today. I burned through this one quicker than normal. Makes the wait for the next one all that much longer ;-)
Anywho...good episode. Really enjoyed the interview with Steve Kenson even though I'm not an RPGer (not necessarily by choice) or play M&M ('though, I've been tempted to pick up the DC Adventures book just 'cause). Good interview. He's been around the industry a long time and the interview could have easily gone on twice as long. I'm sure he's full of stories. I always feel a tinge of sadness when I hear someone talk about FASA. I really miss FASA.
I'm looking forward to hearing Raef's experiences when he plays in that Mutants & Masterminds game. Curious to see what his character ends up being and how the game goes.
Those entries for the Survive contest were pretty incredible. Stuff like that is pretty much what keeps me from entering a D6 contest. I'm just not that clever! ;-)
Thanks, guys (and Nicole), for another 4 hrs of entertainment.

To the D6 crew, another great show. Im a recent listener, well joined about episode 55.
Just wondering if you ever reviewed the Savage Worlds game system, namely Hellfrost?? In our dissapointment on the new DnD system and the fact we have played Star Wars for over three years now, our new GM introduced us to Savage Worlds. We are playing in the Hellfrost setting and have only had a couple of sessions.
I am really interested if you could do a review, that is if one wasnt done in your previous shows, as I am interested in your thoughts and insights. To me there are similarities with Gutshot, which you have reviewed positively and we have played that system since as well.

We've not tried Savage Worlds ourselves, but I've heard a lot of good things about it. I would like to try it, and if I do I'll be sure to share my thoughts on the show.

Russ: I just finished the box control Lost Chapter. I was curious as to whether or not you got Ravenloft and Wrath into their boxes with the black insert still there or not. If so, can you give a breakdown on the specific stuff you used?
I picked both up and I am staring at two boxes of loose tiles, it is looking like a bit of a mess.

Thanks Russ. Hope you guys would find some time in your busy gaming schedule to run through Savage Worlds and provide review. You guys collectively provide the best insight from anyone I have listened to and Im interested in your opinion.
For me, with my 4th session exposure, the rule set is somewhat reminiscent of Gygax's Dangerous Journeys but not so broken when it comes to magic and can be played like Gutshot with tape measures rather than squares but the classic DnD square movement is the norm from what I can see. We are getting excited by this rule set and are keen on other peoplse opinions as its not something that is widely known about. Automatically Appended Next Post: Sorry, actually had another question. You guys use a program to augment your voice. I have been looking to no avail for such a program so I could run it when I GM. Could you advise what program your using for your voice augmentation??
Cheers

Thanks for the kind words everyone. Looks like not a lot of unanswered questions this episode . . . you guys are getting good at filling in our gaps!
Savage Worlds does keep popping up over and over again on the radar, so I'd imagine that, within reasonable limits given the imminent release of Black Crusade (which only Raef is interested in currently) and Russ' desire to run a Dresden game . . . one of us will take a look at Savage Worlds in the not-too-horribly-distant future.
As for voice augmentation, for edited effects we use the free software Audacity. For in-the-moment effects like the Achievements echo, Russ uses the actual mixing board, so no cheap cut-out there, I'm afraid. Although there may well be programs out there that do that that we're not aware of.
Thanks again for your thoughts and insights, guys, and no worries about honest feedback, Hokie. Gentle reminders serve to keep us focused. Didn't feel like piling on
I just caved and bought my own copy of Merchants and Maruaders, + a small 6 compartment Plano and the medium red-tabbed Plano . . . and now other than treasure chests, player mats, game board and rules, the entire game is compartmentalized! Love it. Gave a little sigh of contentment as I plopped the last ship into its little plastic cradle.

I did have to pull the inserts.

What Craig said about how we handle the voice changing in the show. But...
I had a chance to test out the new D&D Virtual table software which is currently in Beta from WotC.
Works great so far, lots of potential. But the best part?
Not only does it have built in voice chat, but it even has built in voice changers. Everything from 'inside knight's helmet' (sounds like a storm trooper) to "Male to Female" which is kinda freaky sounding.

Thanks for the pics.
As an aside, did you notice that if you search for Hugo's Amazing Tape on amazon the window for other products purchased by customers who bought the tape is all Plano boxes? I giggled a bit. Either your podcast spawned a rush of customers or there are a lot of OCD gamers out there.

Thanks for the feedback gentlemen. I will look into that Audacity program and see how it can be integrated into our role playing sessions.
Im encouraged by thefact that there is even a slight potential that you could road test Savage Worlds rule set and provide a review in one of your upcoming shows. Will sit quietly in anticipation of that one.
