Hello everyone, over the past three months I became a bit addicted to ska music. Recently, I was asked to put together a CD with ska songs. The only good ska music I found are songs which came up on youtube when I typed 'ska music'. Of course I checked the recommended videos in the side bar of the song, but I know I'm missing some good bands. So could anyone share me some of your favorite ska bands? maybe put a link to a good song of that band?

Thanks already!

depends on the type of Ska, personally i quite like Streetlight Manifesto, and (to a lesser extent) Capdown.
otherwise there is the Skatalites (for the other side of the coin)

I have heard some songs of capdown, (bitches and nike shoes, ska wars, another song I can't seem te remember the name of) I have heard of the existing of the skatalites, but never bothered to hear one of their songs before.

But, I have grown a liking of the british version of ska, the 'two tone ska'. IMHO, it's sounds better then the Jamaican stuff. I have listened to a lot of reggae in my life, and have come to a point of growing tired of that accent.

ah, thanks MGS. I have heard about the specials, and I was surprised to find some songs of the specials on my ipod. I'm looking up madness and the selecter now.

haha definitely, you should check out streetlight, its much more what you are looking for then.
the reggae style stuff kinda bores me anyway tbh.
o and ska wars has to be easily my favourite song from capdown, the sax is killer
and search for: Bandits Of The Acoustic Revolution (or BOTAR for short), they are the best bits of streetlight (ie the lead singer, drummer and i think the guitarist) doing acoustic versions of streetlights stuff with some new songs thrown in. They Provide... (im not gonna put the whole song title in its ridiculous) is awesome

Well there is "Sublime", which I'm sure you probably know of, but thought I'd mention it anyway. There's also "Real Big Fish". Thats all I can think of at the moment, I'm more of a metalhead.

Real big fish, I know them. Sublime, however, I know not.

Not a big fan of Bad Manners though.

Suffolk, where the Aliens roam.

Madness are one of my fave bands, I lived a part of youth listening to them.

I still remember seeing them on the young ones on a rerun in about the mid eighties, which is when I started listening to them.

Probably work

Yeah, it depends on your type of Ska.

Going down the list though:

Aquabats - Super Rad (feel good west-coast ska)
Five Iron Frenzy - Fistful of Sand (christian ska, but bitter enough to make up for it)
Forces of Evil - Mistake (side project that the guy from RBF did to piss off the man)
Less than Jake - Johnny Quest Thinks We're Sellouts (hey, they were ska enough starting out)
Mustard Plug - Throw a Bomb
No Doubt - Spiderwebs (Tragic Kingdom was pretty good. Too bad the band died in the same horrible plane accident that wiped out Green Day. HORRIBLE. PLANE. ACCIDENT.)
PLEASE the band. - Flush (No name indy band from Cali.)
Catch 22/BOTAR/Streetlight Manifesto - hard to say what my favorite is. They had an awesome cover of Such Great Heights. Other than that, They Provide the Paint for the Picture Perfect Masterpiece was pretty good. (these guys are really talented people. I HIGHLY recommend checking them out.)
Suburban Legends - Bright Spring Morning, and I Want More were both amazing. (Their old stuff was awesome. I saw them in concert with the new singer they came up with and they're all right I guess.)
Upstanding Youth - Paint by Numbers (Hawaiian Ska Band. Indy as well)

What are you looking for in a Ska band? What are some songs that you already like?

Oh, and also Mighty Mighty Bosstones. I used to not be a huge fan of them, but they began to grow on me.

Original "I Voted for Kodos" was good until they got into their weird experimental phase. I see other people talked about almost everything else good. Reel Big Fish is my favorite band to be honest. The Forces of Evil and The Scholars are also pretty good. I'll admit I'm a huge fan of Aaron Barrett.

I personally never liked Streetlight Manifesto. I think their frontman, Tomas Kalnoky, is a whiny ass. But that's just personal opinion.

true, he was the only one who refused (under duress from the rest of the band) to come back out of the changing room after i saw them live to sign the tickets
he does write good tunes though
