I will be going to a small friendly tournament in a few weeks and am working on a list. I've put together what I think is fairly good, but I would like people's advice on it. I believe there will be a wide variety between infantry heavy and mech heavy lists, so I've tried to stay somewhat in the middle with them. Also, no unique/named characters are allowed.

Anyway, here's my list.

== HQ ==
Tyranid Prime (1) - Deathspitter, Pair Of Boneswords, AG, Toxin Sacs = 115 pts.

== Elites ==
Hive Guard Brood (3) = 150 pts.
Zoanthrope Brood (230 pts.)
Zoanthrope (3) = 180 pts.
Mycetic Spore (1) - Cluster Spines = 50 pts.

== Troops ==
Tervigon (1) - Cluster Spines, AG, Toxin Sacs, Cat, Onslaught = 210 pts.
Termagant Brood (17) - Devourer = 170 pts.
Termagant Brood (17) - Devourer = 170 pts.

== Fast Attack ==
Harpy (1) - Cluster Spines, Twin-Linked Heavy Venom Cannon, Regeneration = 185 pts.

== Heavy Support ==
Trygon Prime (1) - Regeneration = 265 pts.

== Total ==
1495 pts.

Now I've never used a harpy before. I've read a bit about them and am a little concerned about how it will survive. Do you think it can bring its points back in a list like this? Or should I drop it and try to make room for a tyrannofex or something?

Okay, so i would definetly drop the devourers on the termagaunts giving you 170 points, that is ALOT, then drop regen on both the harpy and the trygon then spend the rest of those points on another tervigon and some guards, you can but the tervigon as HQ.

Harpys are great anti-infantry just for your knowledge and talso good at last minute contests, tyrannofexs' arn't tournement worthy and regen isn't worth it at all either :(

I'd trim one gant squad to min 10 and no upgrades. Stick the remaining devourers in another spore and go for 2*2 hive guard.
