I was wondering if it was allowed in the rules to take weapons from other armies and put them on yours? For example an Ork with GK sword. I read that in Warhammer Fantasy this is perfectly fine. Is it the same for 40k?

Well there is nothing wrong with using the bits for modelling purposes, it could look good. However, you can't take the rules from any codex and mix it with another one. If you could do that my veterans would have str4 shotguns and stormshields.

Orks can

Orks get a free pass on this kind of thing, for being orks.

The looted wagon from the codex is usually a very dented tank from a different codex, using the rules from the ork codex.

Some other armies take trophies (which can be modelled on) but this is less usual, especially in wysywig tournament games.

The Imperium is a bit down on using non-imperial tech (heresy) and the Tau Empire likewise (because tau-built doesn't blow up).

The nids don't need anyone else's stuff, and theirs by and large doesn't work in non-nid hands, except in older fluff.

The eldar and dark eldar tend to have very stylized weapon and armour loadouts, out of tradition and racial superiority issues.


Basically- if you want to model something from another army on, go for it But be prepared to be asked what it's meant to be if you go to tournaments etc

I suppose you could use them if you wanted to change the appearance of your army. But, in terms of the rules being legit, I doubt many players would like your space marines showing up with anything but bolters.

not with rules, but if your army says that they can loot (ORKSSS) you can make them look awesome (give orks boltguns, etc)

I know I used and imperial banner, cutted the auquila, glued stuff on it to make it look more orkish and made a waagh banner out of it.

That's fine, as the bolter becomes a shoota (and a nice loud shoota too )
