So I'm looking into a 100% Alpha Strike Space Marine army. I'm this close to ordering 1k points worth of BA DoA goodness on wayland, but then, doubts are lurking in...

Is it possible and viable to do a complete Alpha Strike BT? Doesn't have to be top-tier tournament competitive, but "good enough" for both friendly/fun and the occasional competitive game. (I don't mind winning from time to time).

As they don't have drop pod assault, I guess my army would come in unit-by-unit, half of them by second turn, ... I like how you've got more varied units that just the one power armor jump pack marine and the occasional terminator.

How would a nice 1000 point BT alpha strike army look like?

In my experience 'alpha-strike' usually means overpowering long range shooting, and/or assaults by scouting fast units, to shoot or assault the enemy in the first turn. As far as I know, BT have no real potential in either area (and they have no reserves manipulation or fast outflankers to achieve the same effect in turn 2 or 3) so I don't think they would be the ideal army for this. I suppose you could take 3 predators, 3x2 typhoon speeders, dreadnoughts, and mount the rest of your army in land raiders, but I do not think that would stack up against a shooting army from IG or the most recent space marine codexes.

My main armry is a BT army but I do not and cannot really see them as an apha strike army like you are looking for.

They do not have drop pod assault so you are rolling your deep strikes on the table possibly one at a time. Even on average rolling you are putting out 1-3 things a turn. That basically allows shooting armies the ability to just obliterate you. They dont have to worry about target priority because well... they have 20 guns and only 2 things to shoot at instead of 6,7,8 things to choose from.

My 2000 point list is not the norm for a LOT of BT players, but I play it well, and I can produce results against other army out there.

Marshall with a Chain Fist and Storm shield - give him Adamanite Mantle - 185 point HQ with a 2+/3+ 3W's and immune to instant death.
5 Terminators - 3 lighting claws, 2 hammers/shields (Furious Charge) (Claws re-roll to hit and to wound...prolly the best assault terms in the game.
This in a Land Raider Crusader with Blessed Hull.

Emperor's Champion (Accept Any Challenge No Matter the Odds)
8 man Crusader Squad - 1 melta gun, 1 powerfist, frags - Rhino
8 man Crusader Squad - 1 melta gun, 1 powerfist, frags - Rhino

Venerable Dread with Twin-linked Lascannon, CCW/Heavy Flamer - Tank Hunters

Predator Destructor with Lascannon sponsons - Power of the Machine Spirit

Land Speeder Typhoon - Multi-Melta - Typhoon Missile Lauchers
Land Speeder Typhoon - Multi-Melta - Typhoon Missile Lauchers

I def change it around a bit sometimes, to Vindicators, or drop the preds and add more troops but for the most part this is a good amount of shooting, and decent assault threat.
The stable of the army is the Land Raider and its contents.

I guess a side note, this list struggles against big gun line IG, but has done very well against most anything else. Space wolves, Blood Angels, Nids cry at the shooting....
Codex marines havent really been an issue.
