I am converting some mounted Black templars on armoured horses. and before sticking the weapons on i was thinking of rules....

bearing in mind IG rough riders cost 55 points for a squad with laspistols and one use hunting lances (sergent can upgrade to a power weapon for +10 and 2 rr can upgrade to plasma/flamer/multi meltas for 15/5/10 points respectively) and BT space marine bikers cost 32 points per bike come with twin linked bolters and and 3 can upgrade to power weapons for +10 (amongst others)

I propose

Using largely the Rough riders rules e.g
BS/WS/S/T/I at 3

but with armour saves of SM bikers

SV 3+ and Ld7

Modeled with bolt pistols counting as las pistols and all 5 models having power weapons for 25 points with a +10 for each power weapon so 35 a model 175 a squad versus the 55 points a rough riders squad would cost and 192 points (5 bikes 3 power weapons / 212 points for 5 bikes 5 power weapons-though not allowed) for space marines.

let us know if you think this is fair, kind regards

I dunno why you would downgrade to a laspistol... one of my brothers is mounting his marines on Cold Ones and we're just gonna make them count-as bikers, so I don't see why you wouldn't just do that (unless you want to use the hunting lances).

just making it seem fairer.

reckon ive got myself a solution. just get another horse and have 2 3horse squads and then everyone can upgrade to a power weapon + bolt pistol to represent a twin linked bolt pistols and just forego a bolter shot....

seems easier

I would have used BT scouts (forget what the BT versions are called) as they fit the idea better.

neophytes can only be used as part of a tactical/combat squad, they have lower armour saves etc

And why would any marine be WS/BS/S/T/I 3? Just doesn't work IMO.

For thirteen years I had a dog with fur the darkest black. For thirteen years he was my friend, oh how I want him back.

Yes but that's where the horse comes in. It's like with TWC, both the rider and mount are represented with one stat line.

So while a normal neophyte would have a weaker armor save a neophyte riding on a armored warhorse (if you did armor) would have an increase armor save as a result. The same could be said for the other stat differances between a neophyte and a Initiate. This would let you represent BT biker marines as Neophytes on warhorses and have fluff support.

And from a fluff point of view you could put one Initiate on a horse and have it be that he is training them to become bikers but they aren't allowed to use actual bikes untill they're ready.
