Hello all,

I'm not 100% sure this is the right place to post this so mods, please move it if it needs to be moved.

Today at my sons school I was approached by the Head (principle) and asked if I would be interested in running an after school gaming club for a group of year 5/6's that have shown an interest in the game, I was honoured to take up this challenge, and very chuffed that the school was willing to offer premises for free, with access to toilets, water and eating areas if needed.

They are prepared to pay for an enhanced CRB for me, and one of the teachers is willing to support me for the first few weeks.

I have downloaded GW Schools Club Toolkit, which has loads of useful advice, but I am planning a further meeting next week with the Head to discuss it further and wondered if any of the guys/gals here have had similar experiences and would be able or willing to offer any advice or nugets of wisdom for me.

Kind Regards
Ellis

Hmm, not sure how things are different in the English school system, but here clubs basically form up when kids already have an interest and you just provide space/supervision for them to play together. Once that starts, they tend to grow on their own.

Be prepared for "so-and-so took my mini" crap. And stealing. Even amongst friends that seems to happen with adolescents.

I'm not like them, but I can pretend.

Observations on complex unit wound allocation: If you're feeling screwed, your opponent is probably doing it right.

Yes the group that have asked to start up is about 6-8 strong, so a small start up group, they are all beginners.

Dont have a problem handling the behaivor side of things as the group will be supported by a teacher for the first few weeks.

It was more of the practicalities I was thinking about.

For instance should there be a membership fee, to help pay towards club paints etc. or should I keep it as bring your own for now?

Im also going to try to encourage some parents to get involved (other than myself of course) to keep a good adult to child ratio going.

Stay away from membership fees, the minis will be expensive enough.

I suggest running skirmish scale introductory stuff until they can walk on their own. You should have "club minis" for kids who cant convince their parents to throw their money away on delicate toys, and then allow them to bring their own if they ahve them.

an AoBR box would be a good start, throw in a paint set to help them learn drybrushing and crap like that.
