Got the idea after reading an old WD mag (cant remember which issue ) where they used a SP train in a apoc battle, i decided to make some general rules.

Train........................................................................................points: 200+carriages
Heavy support
BS: 3 front: 14 side: 13 rear: 10
Unit: 1 train
Type: tank, open top
Carriage points: 10
Weapons:
• pair of sponsors each with a heavy bolter
• Search light, extra armour, and smoke launchers
Options:
A train may be upgraded to:
• Fast train (becomes a fast tank, loses 5 carriage points)........................points: free
• Heavy train (gains 10 carriage points).....................................................points: 50
A train may take
• An extra pair of sponsor with heavy bolters...............................................points: 50
• A sealed cab ...............................................................................................points: 30
• A turret battle cannon.................................................................................points: 50
• Heavy ram....................................................................................................points: 50
A train may exchange its heavy bolters for (includes the extra)
• Heavy flamer or autocannons.....................................................................points: free
• Multi meltas................................................................................................points: 10
• Lascannons..................................................................................................points: 15
• Plasma cannons...........................................................................................points: 20
A train may take one of the following
• Twin-linked autocannon, heavy flamer or heavy bolter.............................points: 15
• Twin-linked missile launcher.......................................................................points: 20
• Twin-linked lascannons...............................................................................points: 25
• Twin-linked plasma cannons.......................................................................points: 45
Rules: carriages, crash, tracks, ram
Carriages: a train can take certain amount of carriages depending on the train carriage points minus the carriages carriage points.
Tracks: the train can only move on tracks (or equivalent).
Crash: when the train suffers a penetrating hit add 1 to the damage table roll.
Ram: when a train rams it automatically inflicts a strength 10 hit on the enemy vehicle in addition to the normal hit but also suffers a additional glancing hit.
Heavy ram: if the train has a heavy ram option than it ignores all glancing hits to its front armour (including the ram one) it also adds a modifier of -1 when tank shocking.
Sealed cab: removes the open top rule, increases (rear, train) armour by 1.

Pulled: the carriage has no way of self movement, it always moves with the train. If the train or the carriage in-between the train is destroyed then the carriage becomes immobilised.

Transport: 10
Weapons: 2 mortar, search lights, smoke launchers

Yep thatss the train, if my memory is correct the battle is in the apoc rule book as well.
whats your opinion on the rules though.

Seems interesting. One thing that kinda bugs me is that theres really not all that much difference between the large and small car armament wise (although I do know there is a differnce between x2 battle cannon cars vs a large car with x2 cannons)

maybe add in some other traditional train weapons like anti air (hydra turret, manticore anti air missiles for large, saber gun for small) and artillery (small car could take a large mortar/thuddgun, large can take earthshaker, manticore rockets, bombard, etc)

I also feel that if a train car has a large gun like a cannon, it probably wont have room to transport other people

I reckon that the train should be fast anyway, as it moves on tracks and loses that mobility or it could be able to move and shoot...

I did think about giving them some AA and artillery options but i forgot about it when i wrote the rules.
If you can give me a surgestion on the points i'll be happy to add them in.
As for the transport and cannons i dident think it through properly. Can you give me a surgestion on a modification to the rules.

i intend to make up some rules for using the drake on a vehcle but for now will leave them with you and your train.
i thought it up whilst writing in on your train as i thought that the light carriage would need some form of artillery seeing as the heavy carriage can carry the earthshaker.

i thought it up whilst writing in on your train as i thought that the light carriage would need some form of artillery seeing as the heavy carriage can carry the earthshaker.

personly i think the griffin morter would be better for the light but i thank you for the idea.
i would also suggest transport carriages as well.
maybey capacity 10 for a light and 20 for a heavy?

good idea, can you suggest a point value for your ideas.

i was also thinking of some other ideas for carriages, tell me what you think and i'll write some rules.
-super heavy carriage
-stratigic carriages (HQ, ammo, repair, prison, fuel ?)
-vehicle transport
-big bertha cannon and other weapons of massed destruction.

Im not to sure about costs but for the weapons i will get some up for tomorrow.
as for the transport the points cost should be the same as the carriage used(plus the squad[s] obviously).
the transport carriages saccrifice the ability to carry heavy weapons in order to carry the troops.
light carriages have 5 firepoints a side and heavy carriages 10 a side.

Strategic cab is grossly overpowered. Very ridiculous rules just for 50 points. I'd be very afraid of relentless tank hunter lootas. I find theres no real use for railway cannon over the mortar. The range does justify the smaller blast and better stats
