This is gonna be a stretch...

In easter, I'm gonna be playing a Marine player in a 3k game. I have about 3120 points that I need cutting down to 3k.

Here's my models available to me, I plead for advice on constructing a working list (As far as Necrons can work atm, at least)

Destroyer Lord, Foot Lord, 4 Pariahs, 10 Flayed Ones, 50 Warriors, 10 Destroyers, 17 Scarabs, 1 Tomb Spyder, 3 Heavy Destroyers, 2 Monoliths, 1 Tomb Stalker, The Nightbringer.

Sell the whole kit on Ebay, buy a Swarmlord, some Tyrant Guards, a Tervigon, a whole bunch of Hormagaunts and Termagants. This seems to be the standard way to eat Marine armies these days.

Why is it that every time people post for help with army lists, everyone else BLATANTLY IGNORES the fact that, hey, this is their army, these are the models they already have, and they probably don't want to go out and buy, assemble and paint a whole new army. Can nobody, I don't know, even TRY to figure out how best to use the posted units and models the best way possible?


I'd help if I could (without telling you to buy new stuff) but, unfortunately, I have little to no experience with Necrons. The only thing I can tell you is from reading the forums here, which is that you should probably take both Monoliths, use the portals extensively with your warriors to keep them from being charged, and perhaps take the Tomb Stalker (if it's a Monstrous Creature) to deal with tanks and other heavy armour. Take out their heavy weapons as quick as possible, because then your Monoliths will be nigh indestructible.

Also, I think Tomb Stalker might be good simply because it's a relatively unused unit up till now, and other players won't have much experience with it.

What about a Saytan (sp?) or two? I know that thing was eating everything in a 4k game i played agaisnt necrons.

Um... A what? If you mean C'Tan, I have The Nightbringer, but you can only have 1 in the army. 360 points for whirling CC death incarnate, he'll almost certainly be in there, seeing as he's a Str 10 MC with a 24" str 9 ap 2 assault 1 gun, T8 and denies all saves in CC.

Plenty of Warriors there. Might want to fiddle with squad sizes, for maximum survivability, depending on how the PHase Out rule works. But again, don't know that much practical stuff.

With that list, I'd phase out if my opponent got me down to 18 "Necron" models. But that's not bad considering I have 87 models in the army total.

Could go with more warriors and no scarabs. That gives you more bodies.

No he will need the scarabs for screeners and speedbumps and contesting obectives.

So, use Scarabs and Tomb Stalker against tanks and armour, Nightbringer 'gainst CC squads? Warriors and Destroyers as, well, the backbone of the army, utilizing the Destroyer's speed & range and the Monolith Portal for the Warriors, to let them shoot at then get away from the general bulk of the army? 'leastways, that's how I've heard they should be played.

Scarabs - Their Disruption Fields glance vehicles on an AP roll of 6, so I'm gonna use them as a moving 30 wound wall that stops tanks from doing anything.
Tomb Stalker - Excellent against shooting infantry but as a S6 MC it won't have much trouble with his Land Speeders.
Nightbringer - Ah, Nighty, I love him so... His proudest moment against this player was killing 4/5 Assault Terminators in one Assault Phase: "Ok, armour saves-" "You don't get any, monstrous creature." "Oh... Invulnerable saves the-" "Nope. C'Tan." "Oh..."
Keep Warriors out of CC by teleporting back to monolith when they're getting heat, use Destroyers to chomp down on easy killpoints like Scouts, as well as keeping the bulk of the army behind cover, 'cos everyone should fear 15 36" str 6 AP4 shots coming from one unit, and 30 shots overall makes me happy And a unit in cover is a unit not taking an objective.

So people like the list I've put out, then? There's 52 warriors in there 'cos I'm borrowing a couple, but other than that my army's models is kind of fixed, until the new codex at any rate.

Also, quick question: Would it be worth me keeping one monolith in reserve, then deep striking it into the heart of his army and pumping out gauss flux arcs? DSing onto enemy infantry isn't a problem because Monolith just shunts them out of the way, I'm just worried about DS mishap. Also, I could phase a warrior squad through and take an objective near the Monolith.

Hmm... I suppose the Deep Strike would be useful, especially with that late-game objective teleport. But then you wouldn't have that second 'lith for teleportation earlier in the game...


Maybe Deep Strike closer to center field? That way you'd have fairly good board control, and if it was turn two, you'd still be able to move it if necessary.

Hmm, yeah, if I DS near the middle, sort of between objectives, I can pour warriors through and take objectives swiftly.
