Here is a link to a new miniatures venture.
http://www.cauldronbornminiatures.com/
The range is just small so far but has some very nice pieces to start off with. There are two Paul Muller sculpts along with some nice Matt Gubser Dwarves.

They're probably off to a promising start... but it's a little hard to tell from their pics.

This is the restart of Excelsior Miniatures under a different name. They don't have the licences for Warzone or Chronopia, but the few new miniatures share some aestetics.

Oh dear, I hate to say it, sculpting of that quality may have looked good in the 80's, but in 2011, with the competition in the SCi Fi market being what it is.....these guys have no chance what-so-ever....
As a homebrew, D.I.Y job, fine, but to sell to the gaming community...no way.

Looking at the Sci-fi model available.... $10.99 (USD I assume) for 1 model of such shoddy quality. Uh, no. I'd rather pay GW $15 or whatever their characters are going for now.

Are you serious, Delephont? I only looked at the fantasy figures under the online store, but they're awesome! Tons of character and they look fantastic to me.

You're right, and I noticed that after I posted the above.
However, the fantasy figures are only $4.00 each (or 4 for $13.00 for the dwarfs) and look quite good. Definitely very characterful, at the least!
The pics are obviously pretty small and it's hard to see exactly what's there, but I like the feel of the models. Will be very interested to see what they put out for fantasy (as a fantasy-only player here )

Fantasy models look cool. May I suggest you take pictures that are level with the miniature? It is a little hard to tell what the dwarf looks like from the top down view. Either way good luck!

Yep, I'm serious. The fantasy models, well, the ork thing grabbing it's crotch is gonna appeal to some and not others I guess. I was refering to the Sci Fi effort mind you, but still...
I'm also very suspiscious regarding the level of photography.....why are they so sketchy? Almost as if they're trying to hide something.....like a lack of sculpting quality?
Anyway...each to his own. I wish them the best of luck, and I guess competition is still competition.

I suspect that all that's being concealed is a lack of professional photographic equipment.
When you're putting every penny into paying sculptors, casters and distributors, there's not much left over for a DSLR and lighting kit.

I know we suffer from this, and would imagine most small companies do.

With you on this RiTides
I like the fact that they have gone with their own aesthetic on dwarves, if a little too Roman for my Nordic/Saxon tastes but imho it works.
Like the hunchback chappie too
Was also going to say that a table level view would be good Brettz
If they are a new company hope there is time for them to learn and keep improving.

Fair enough, but it's a little bit funny to go through all the trouble of setting up a company, trying to make the best product you can, and end up failing because you have under-estimated the importance of advertising.....
Still, like I said, I wish them all the best.

Yeah, the Warzone/Chronopia aesthetic is really not good for the current market. There's just too much of the old stuff out there. Also, the poses are not good.
However, those cauldronborn/goblin thingies are GREAT! and for that cheap, they would probably sell well too. Manic_miner, if you focus your efforts there you're probably more likely to make good money than putting out the less well-sculpted figs in armor.
Btw, I have a few Chronopia figs and a couple bags of the Warzone plastics- elements of the range could be salvaged but for the most part the armor sculpting was sub-par and the proportions were way, way too cartoony even back then- but nowadays they're positively ridiculous, on the level of MageKnight or another discount-bin relic. Avoid the armor from that sculptor, bud, at least until they've worked to modernize their look. But the more organic goblinish sculpts are really pretty nice!
