As above really. Most Ork lists that I see contain either pure slugga or pure shoota. Does anyone use a mixture of both?

I'm thinking something along the lines of 3 layers of things in a footslogging list. First you have kanz, then sluggas, then shootas. Your sluggas can dig in while the shootas either shoot stuff of help them out.

If that's the way you go, send in the shootas first, because if the choppas get stuck in then the shootas can't fire. I would use shootas to soften up the unit, then charge, and then hit with the sluggas.

I use units of shootas and sluggas. They're both pretty damn effective really, its just nice to be able to be flexible with tactically deciding if you need +1 attack or +1 ranged shot.

Walking shoota boyz and trukking slugga boyz is a pretty common mix.

Use your Shootas to hold objectives. They have more defensive ability to range down on coming contenders.

I use a mixture of both in my kan wall. The sluggas generally go in the center of the spearhead for counterassaulting anything that tries to charge the kans or the flanking shootas. The flanking shootas hold forward objectives and put shooting pressure on things. By having both I can take advantage of my opponents weaknesses by shooting things I don't want to charge and charging things that are resistant to shooting. Works very well.
