Kicking about with Deamon prince ideas, and wondered if anyone knew where I could source these in an appropriate scale? I've found a few toys, but the detail isn't there, and they're mostly made of very thin plastic.

Hum.
This topic came up some time ago and there were some good replies, so try searching for that thread.
My idea would be to use transparent plastic sheet. You could put the veins on using PVA or clear E6000, and trace over them with a marker pen.

Yeah, had a look at the thread, the micaheals storebought ones looked pretty good, but can't find anything in an online retailer.
I'm alos intrigued by the dragonfly wings. Far too squeemish though. Nothing should die for my modelling pleasure!

It would be outrageous to kill dragonflies to make wings for a 40K model.
Just cut up some plastic off a blister pack.

You can always look for plastic toy bugs, just clip them off and you're set. Most wings for toy bugs are clear so you're pretty much set, just some minor detailing and you're good.

You can usually find multi-colored cellophane at places that sell gift-wrapping stuff. That is if you are trying to do something that has a specific color. If going for clearish, I would go with the above suggestion of blisters as it will be more durable. You could use some kind of glue or hard epoxy for the frame work, would give it a cool bubbly look that would be chaos appropriate. Just find a surface that it won't stick to (wax paper possibly), and make drips that overlap each other in the general shape that you are going for. The under side would be flat, giving you a good surface to mount the cello to. There's always armature and GS, but I think that the dripping thing would have a cool look. You could even do it over a piece of armature, using it as a guide and adding structural integrity.

The outliners for glass painting might work better than pva, you can get them in different colours, and it works well on the acetate sheets if you went with the photocopy idea.
