A little old, i know but still would like to know.
A tournament im getting into wont let me use the new GK codex, but said i can use the old one.
I'm using foot Guard and i have an Inquistor with a Auspex.
The question is, if my opponent infiltrates sets off my auspex and i nominate a squad of men on foot,
Would that squad be able to run instead of shooting??
I dont have my rulebook with me but it seems to me that it would come down to the wording of shoot or run.
Or is it run instead of shooting??

Running is done in the shooting phase in lieu of shooting. If you are given special permission to shoot at an enemy outside the shooting phase it does not let you opt to run instead (unless you are in the shooting phase..you get the idea).

Yeah, running is already done in lieu of shooting, so what are you asking?
And what kind of TO is letting you use the old codex? I'd like to know, because the old Dark Angels codex wasn't as poor as the newer one, I'd like to get in on some of that action!

Doesn't running say you can do it instead of shooting though?
So any opportunity to shoot would allow you to run instead?
And its because of it being released so soon to the tournament.

Regarding the 'old' codex, even GW used to have a 30-day crossover in their GTs.
And I'll agree with the no running. While you can normally run instead of shooting, the auspex gives you permission to shoot, that's it. So that's all you get to do.

Agreed. A special permission to shoot is not a general permission to exchange that for something else.

Not to turn this into a flame.
But would this not be the same case as the shunt move and scout move??
Because of rulebook wording stating run instead of shooting.
And the auspex give you permission to shoot, so you could choose to switch that out to run.
Auspex also states about following normal shooting rules.
But the scout move allows a move, just like the auspex allows shooting except you are using shunt instead of moving and running instead of shooting.
Because if this is the cause as the said statements above then it easily ends shunting in scout move and running with a auspex.

This was my thought as well after reading both threads.
I am mostly nit-picking details, however, until I actually read through the new codex.

I see this example as the only example for Shunt.
Turbo-boosting and smoke launchers are invalid because, they werent allowed until they had a FAQ to allow them.
And the wording is not similar for TB compared to shunt at all.
But shunt to Run is nearly the same thing just shooting instead of moving.
But this is a real issue if i cant run with a auspex then i dont think a shunt can scout move.

pg. 16 of the BRB:
In their shooting phase, units may choose to run instead of firing,...
That should answer your question.

They arent the same argument, as one specifies shooting phase, and the other specifies it acts as a movement phase. Asupex does NOT grant you a shooting phase.
BTW: the FAQ did not have to *allow* smoke or TB, btw. Just a heads up - they were already allowed
