To Forward: I haven't played or picked up a brush in about 5 years. I had this thought not long ago, and it disturbed me because of how much enjoyment I did get out of the hobby as a whole. I'll add that to my list of collateral damage.
I'm getting back into the hobby, with a renewed sense of vigor, especially considering my recent decisions as for my career (the 'gak I'm 20' crisis). I'd rather not get too into the details of that here, that's for another thread when I'm ready to write that and start the project in earnest.

I have a handful of old Chaos Space Marines that I've dug up from my first forray, they happen to be Iron Warriors, however, i've decided to strip the bastards so I can repaint them with what will hopefully be a wiser hand. In addition, I've looked around (primarily on forgeworld) and was impressed by some of the Chaos models there, Specifically the Brass Scorpion of Khorne. Why do these machines exist for the blood god and are not of the Iron Warriors? I want to change this.

Now, I do want to retain my Iron Warriors. Call it Nostalgia, call it what you will, perhaps the idea of a Basilisk fighting for Chaos tickles me in some way. However, Doing so Limits my army list in some important ways:
No Chaos Spawn (or any daemons for that matter).
Daemon Prince will require a very VERY heavy conversion.

This army is more than a game to me at this point, it's an investment in my personal training towards a career in art. I want to push myself in these skills, be it painting, sculpting etc. I don't want to look at an idea and say to myself 'that's too hard'. I want to look at it and say 'how much Green stuff is this going to take?'

I had a novel Idea yesterday, however. Why not a hybrid chapter? I haven't the faintest what I'll do about background just yet (though I'm confident it will be clever), but I was thinking a splinter of the Iron Warriors who worship Khorne. Half the armor painted silver, gold and yellow (Iron warriors scheme), the other half Reddish with a symbol of Khorne blatent. It would retain the Iron Warriors mechanical nature, infused with Khorne's bloodthirsty nature. The Daemon Prince would still be converted (I'm thinking Valkyrie engines somehow mounted for wings, perhaps a defiler head in place of an actual one; though I'm not sure yet).

Thoughts on this? Good Idea or no? Would this net me some suspicious looks?

As a post-script, I love the community here. Found this last week on my way to the only remaining hobby shop in a fair distance. Cheers you guys.

Iron Warriors have Khorne Berserkers in their ranks, and they use them as dedicated assault troops. This gets detailed in Storm of Iron a bit. I've seen cyberdemons made for Iron Warrior Daemon Princes, and I like the idea. Unfortunately, Basilisks are no longer an option, but you could run them as vindicators without too much flak I think.

No More basilisks for me? Ugh. What a damn shame. In all fairness, that fact is why I picked iron warriors from the get-go.

Oh well, Guess I'm going to have to pick up a Vindicator in the coming weeks.

By all means, have a Iron Warriors army dedicated to Khorne, in fact, I'd encourage it. I saw a really nice unit of 'Zerkers painted up as Iron Warriors (but still with much of the Zerker parts; just Iron Warrior colours) and it always stuck in my mind as looking REALLY good.

There's nothing to stop you having an army dedicated to a god of your choice. As I said, I'd encourage it.

But yes, no Basilisks anymore. Vindicators are a good replacement however and merge well with the general range of CSM units (i.e. up close and personal).

Good Luck and Welcome to Dakka!

"As I recall, your face was tortured. Imagine that - the Master of the Wolves, his ferocity twisted into grief. And yet you still carried out your duty. You always did what was asked of you. So loyal. So tenacious. Truly you were the attack dog of the Emperor. You took no pleasure in what you did. I knew that then, and I know it now. But all things change, my brother. I'm not the same as I was, and you're... well, let us not mention where you are now."
