Subject: New GK codex: where to start?

Hello all. I decided to take the plunge and shelf my nids for meqs. Since the gk codex just came out ive settled on them. Im aiming for a kind of elite force witg low model count. Im not a fan of Inquisition units either. So with that in mind where do you think a safe place to start is? I can only reliably buy a new kit every two weeks or so and since i dony know quite what army type i want to do id like a safe start just to get going. I was thinking termies or that new dread? Also what hqs? What are some ways to equip them? My meta has a ton of armor too. So thanks for all your help!

The termies are a bit meh, they don't have good invuls. The dread knight can be good, but only if you have fire support elsewhere, and take more than one.
A dreadknight list would probably start like this: 3 dreadknights with personal teleporters, 3 ven dreads with 2 TL auto cannons + ammo upgrade. Crowe as your HQ, then purifiers in boosted HB razors as your troops. If you can fit them in, intercepters are pretty decent too.
So you will have 3 nasty flying dreadknights, Three 4 shot S8 platforms, then however many psycannons and S6 bolter backs you can afford for the purifiers. Should do well against enemy armor, and the purifiers and dreadknights are good in CC.

Only problem with that army as its only for really pricey games. Every unit is going to be approaching 200 points.
DK w PT -205 without weapons
Ven Psyrifle Dread - 195
5xPurifier w/2xPsycannon and Psibolter Back - 210
So even with 2xDK, 2xVenDread, 4x Purifiers and Crowe you are looking at
205
205
195
195
210
210
210
210
150
is just shy of 1800 points and only has 20 scoring models...

I regularly play 2k point games. I like the dread list. What about paladins?

Well, there is Draigo, while expensive, makes paladins troops.
Draigo: 275
HS: dread 2x auto + ammo 135 X3
5 paladins with 2x cannons 315 before other upgrades X4
that is 1940 before upgrading any paladins. I went with no apthocary, since it is expensive, and honestly not as good as people think. A 2+ save diverse unit is nearly immune to small arms, and FNP doesn't save you from the weapons they aren't immune to.
So 20 scoring models with 40 wounds and 2+ save, and 12 S8 long range shots.
Not a competitive list, but man it looks fun.

Paladins aren't great imo. Too expensive really. I am a fan of the solo paladin DS threat, but I know others probably aren't with me on that. I think your army needs to be built in a certain way for it to do anything.

Here is somthing to think about the Paladins
2+/5++ Save, with the Nemisis Force Blade they are 2+/4++
The Apthicary gives FNP [I know most of the weapons aimed at them may bypass this.

2+/4++ in close combat. Still can't parry a lascannon.

Ok I should of prefaced that I do not play competitively and have no desire too. I want this army to be somewhat competitive, but still to the flavor I want. So with that said I really do like the idea of a paladin squad. So for this army I was thinking of doing maybe a dropship with paladins and a dread, squads of interceptors or strike squads to go around with my dread knights. Then if I have points either an assassin, or just regular troops with maybe rhinos. I haven't figured out points yet but I usually shoot for 2k on an army. Any Ideas on how this would do? I play mostly for fun but I don't wanna get crushed! Also HQ recommendations? Maybe take Crowe and drop some numbers of Interceptors for Purifiers? So Id have dreadknights with maybe a squad or two of interceptors, Purifiers in rhinos, one squad of paladines in a drop ship, Crowe, and Dreads to fill it up if I can?
PS Thanks for all the help so far guys! You are helping learn this codex better!

Take this as the Retorical Humorus Coment it is suposed to be.
"How does one shoot a Las-Cannon into Close Combat???"
Actualy I don't think it is so bad to have the 2+/5++ save with Troop Choices.
Yes Paladins cost a lot, think about this bad start of a joke
A Brotherhood Chapion and 7 other Paladins armed with a banner and Paired Flachons leap out of a Crusader!
