I'm building a 400 pt. Combat Patrol of CSM and I want five Chosen Space Marines. Since I'm a n00b at CSM, I didn't initially realize that there aren't dedicated models for Chosen. Do you guys just paint them differently, or embellish them more, just make them like the rest of your Chaos Space Marines but just call them Chosen?

I've thought about making them fancier than my normal CSM and then I can use them as Aspiring Champions with other squads of standard CSM in the future, when needed.

Thanks!

I modeled mine differently than the rest of my army, did some free-hand sculpting and stuff on them. They're just supposed to be CSM but "better" CSM, so I just reflected that with more trophies and more ornate armor.

Need a clue? Check the sprue.

For my chosen, i going to model them with archaic power armour, the MK3 stuff.

It makes them stand out. ALso, they will have gold trim instead of the silver that is standard on my CSM

I went kind of wild on my Chosen... Here are a few pics.

I was really going for a 'knight' look for them. Their backstory is that they are Fallen members of the Dark Angels that have sworn allegiance to Levistus Wulfbeil, the sorcerer-lord.

To build them, I used Warhammer Fantasy Warriors of Chaos cloaks. It took a bit of conversion, but if you do a search for Hyenajoe, he's got a good tutorial for it somewhere on here.

Slaneesh may seem fun now, but when you find yourself in bed with a he-goat and several implements of pain, you'll know you've gone too far. -Emperor's Faithful

Compare Chosen to regular CSM like SM Veterans to regular SM.

They should look more unique, more chaos-y, and more effort put into them compared to rank and file soldiers.

I would go with some head swaps, such as the chaos knight heads, and then add little jinglies such as the symbols on the ends of chains from the chaos marauder horsemen box. Other than that you could try your hand at greenstuff/putty work but would strongly suggest that you practice on some models you don't care about first

Kitbash the Possessed frame with CSM is the simpliest way to get some really good looking Chosen. The Dark Angels Robed bodies are also a good palce to go, since it gives them a bit more of a religious tone.

Hell, I'm not that bothered by the Stormraven. Why? Because, as it stands right now, it's "limited use".When it's shoehorned in to the Codex: Space Marines, then yeah. I'll be irked.

I made exactly the same mistake. I have plan to conver some of mine which are black leigion by giving them a load more gold but as i'm fielding mostly specialist units (zerks and plagues) I may just keep them as they are and dictate at the start of a game they are chosen, no-one will get confused if i have no normal CSM's!

Malifaux henchman, best game in the world.
