Just go this idea for the next 40k film. Its more for fun rather than a serious proposal.
Rather than a sci-fi action flick, make it a documentary (or mock-umentary) that follows the life of a typical gamer. From the time of first hearing about the hobby to his/her rise to a prestigious international tournament winner. It could catalog the gamer's struggles and successes with list-building, painting and modeling, dealing with GW's antics ( ), early tabletop battles as a noob (as well as struggling with the social stigma of gaming ), becoming a seasoned player (and then tolerating other noobs) and so on. Perhaps even feature a brief lapse into insanity where the gamer allows the hobby to take over his life (and money ). Obviously this wouldn't be for wide release, or probably any release beyond the gaming community. A "straight to internet" indy work of love. It would be epic imho.

I imagine this would actually be good... like how King of Kong was considered the first "good" video game movie.

How dare you say that in light of Street Fighter, starring Jean Claude Van Damme!
It could be interesting, but I'm not sure how interesting it would be to non-wargamers. King of Kong works since everybody has a reference; most people know the old Donkey Kong arcade game. 40k and this whole hobby is a bit more obscure.

To be completely honest, if you wanna insure that no one in the world will think that wargaming is a healthy, social activity for their children to get into, or that their children are already into, then making a 40K movie about wargamers would be the way to do it. Im not saying that we are all nuts, but to 'normal' people, seeing a bunch of sweaty curly haired overweight guys rolling dice screaming Blood for the Blood god, WAGGGH, for the emperor etc would probably create alot of negative attention. Not all gamers fit the description of being sweaty, curly haired and overweight, but even if 3 or 4 people like that we in a movie, it would fulfill the stereotype to the common folk that ALL gamers are like that. I have a hard enough time explaining and convincing my wife in letting me stay in the hobby, I wouldn't need her to see that and have my fate sealed and never play again.

Cultist of Nurgle with Open Sores

I put myself & my friends forwards as non-stereotypical gamers. Seeing a group of punks with mohawks and tattoos, listening to hardcore, sitting around playing D&D & WH40K would perhaps shatter some preconceptions...

Armies:
"Hazmarines" chapter - several 1,000 points
The craftworld "Yal Tir" - 2,000 pts & growing
- Nurgle cultists... coming soon... |

haha that was like my friends and I. We didn't fit the norm for your average wargamer. Definitely more D&D, and we played that too. And Heroes. Not to mention Rifts. We even tried out a teenage mutant ninja turtles and street fighter role playing system. The warhammer roleplaying system they released awhile back is a good one, look into it if you havn't.

Next 40k Movie:
We follow a Space Marine through a Tyranid battle for 1.5 hours. It's tense, we laugh, we cry---at the end however, it's revealed he's really a Starcraft Terran fighting Zerg.
What a twist!
