I might be mistaken but if you look at this ebay listing hes selling Commander Chenkov and claiming hes rare and listing him at roughly 40$ not including shipping. Honestly I might be mistaken or missing something but if you go to the offical warhammer.com webpage hes listed as 15$... The whole point of bringing this topic up is im curious if anybody else runs into these bogus ebay listings.

Many ebay sellers count on people's stupidity.

I've seen Colonel Chenkov go for $30+ twice, and that's before shipping. I don't even know.

The funny thing is, it's not even Commander Chenkov, it's a generic Valhallan Officer w/Power Sword found among the collector models

Doesn't appear to be that rare unless the scarcity is due to the seller hoarding them.

I always skip ebay items listed as RARE. Listing something as Rare when it's not gives me no faith in the honesty of the seller so I won't buy from them even if it's something I want.

I'm always a bit dubious of "I'm not sure exactly what this item is..." also, even though it's listed in the correct category for the current going price. "Don't Know?" Yeah, right.

I like the ones listed as 'Pro painted'.

They are usually mould-line ridden horrors with a blurry pic.

Yeah, 'Pro-Painted' is another stupid title. The meaning of professional is basically 'for money.' So you can sell any old crap and call yourself a professional, it doesn't mean you're skilled.

I see this all the time. That or people will list it for like $5 off of retail, and then charge $15 for shipping. Um hello, thats not a savings.

Slightly off topic, but the thing that makes me crazy are the bidders who will get in to a pissing match with each other and bid a model up past retail price BEFORE shipping.

I know this guy has been mentioned here before, but I can sum up the most annoying thing on Ebay for me with one name - "Midgard Models." Midgard isn't completely horrible, but its still not very good. Of course, Midgard has the audacity to list thier stuff as "master painted." However, that's not the annoying part. If you do a description search for some Warhammer model, you'll get TONS of Midgard hits that in no way relate to what you're looking for. Here's an example:

Go to Ebay and do a description search on the following in the "Toys & Hobbies" category:

sister* "of battle"

If you checked the "include description" box, you'll get something like 1100+ hits.

Now, do a description search in the same category, but with the following instead:

sister* "of battle" -midgard

When you filter out all references to "midgard," the hits drop to under 200. Infuriating.

I've never tried that with the midgard stuff, but I have definitely seen people selling things that they just don't know what they have. I bought a $15 special character with three other fire dragons for $3 once because they didn't know he was a special character.

Yeah, but I've personally seen them sell for over $40. Not list, actually sell. I was bidding on it with like a $5 max bid and welp. I don't understand people. Meanwhile, searching for "warhamer 40k" or "warhammer 4k" has gotten me a deal here and there. Poor spelling and grammar are your friends!

When originally released, I am pretty certain that model was the special character Chenkov (I remember him and Al'Rahem coming out). Interesting that Al'Rahem is still listed as such on the GW site.

Now now, there's some really great "Pro Painted" ones in there. Of course, most of the ones that fall under that category are from 2-3 vendors selling 90% of the good "Pro Painted" stuff.

And here I thought people were idiots for bidding things up past what the same vendor was selling them for as "buy it now".

Agreed about the painting one. I would never pay someone to paint a model. Not only for the money, but then it doesn't fit with the rest of my army.
