Currently working on the sky claws squad and the Wolf Guard with the twin wolf claws that will be going with them.

Wow very neatly painted, the space wolves grey looks especially good with the very precise highlights. One minor critiscism is the junction between the yellow and the blue trim, you need maybe a black line or some shading around the perimeter of the yellow.

Looking very good... I especially like the detail that went into the jump packs and the scorch marks on the back.

Yeah. I don't do shading well. So I don't do it. I'm going to practice my shading/hard lining but for now I'm painting them like I did back in the day. I do have some new techniques I picked up that I've used. Anyway, thanks for the comments!

Just a quick fun shot of a Noise Marine I painted about 17 years ago.

You can try a black wash or even a blue wash on the armor to get a bit of depth. A sigura micron pen size 005 makes it very easy to black line the shoulder pads.

Both are fairly simple and quick and make a huge difference in the look of the model.

Take care

What a PITA these new wolf models are to paint, so many little bits and pieces to deal with. If I make any more infantry I'm going to get the standard boring marines.

This guy was a real PITA. But I've got more of the same, so I guess I've only got myself to blame. lol I'm really happy with how the wolf tail came out, added that onto a standard assault marine chainsword to make it space wolfie.

and here's the next one that's on deck...

Was able to get a game in against some Nids.. My Wolf Guard here was able to take out this whole group. Hurray for Saga of the Warrior Born.

Im legitimately disappointed that you are not currently making any Glamrock/heavy metal marines. I mean genaric plain ole space puppys or leopard print marines, I mean it so obvious which is cooler to me...

hmm.. Chaos hair metal band..

I love space puppies, even before they had a codex I played them. I'm such a fan boy.

In case any non-old schoolers know what the deal is with that noise marine, here's the photo from the white dwarf magazine that I based that off of.

Fantastic yellows on these pieces. I really hate painting yellows, they always come out streaky, but yours is very clean and sharp.

A few washes and a bit of highlighting and these would be truly excellent, but I know it takes a while to try new things, especially when you don't want to ruin expensive figures! I only started using washes and highlights a couple of months ago, and I've been painting minis for over a decade.

Well I do edge highlights and the shading I have done in the past. I just don't like the way it looks even on the pro models. But I'm sure I'll get around to giving it a go again.

As far as the yellow goes, it's not tough.

I use Vallejo Heavy Ochre usually about 3 layers watered down 1:1 with a water/flow aid mix, then an equal parts 1:1:1 of Heavy Goldbrown, Gold Yellow and the water mix. About 3 to 4 layers of that. Then the edge highlight I just add a drop of Dead White.

nice SW lionfire, have you looked into GW washes? they would make a world of a difference to your models and up your painting significantly

I use a lot of washes, just not on the armor.

I think you should give them a whirl. Not to glaze the entire miniature, but carefully put into the recesses. Your highlighting already looks amazing, but the shadow will give it just a touch more depth. I really like the exhaust weathering, really nice.

Thanks! Yeah I plan on doing the shading in the recess like they describe in WD357. It's just too much work at the moment with me trying to even get an army together to start playing. I will definitely try it in the near future so that I do become a better painter. It's amazing the knowledge I have retained even after not painting for nearly 17 years.

You're a very neat painter, it looks like you have a steady hand. Perhaps you could try black/hard lining and not use washes. Either way it'd be a good idea to try out a variety of methods on some test mini's until you're happy.

The above model's would reall benefit from it, IMHO.

Yes.. shading. I know. lol I've learned some new techniques but this is pretty much how I painted all my wolves back in the day. Personal preference I guess, but I like this style.

Still want to put some Patina and some things to the metal on the chainsword, but other than that and the jump pack, he's done.

2 more to go and the sky claws are done.

Fun with Paitna. My first attempt at doing Patina.

One more after this one.. then 8 jump packs to paint.

And the Last Sky claw. Need to finish up the 8 jump packs and then I'll take a group shot. Next up will be my Rune Priest and then my Arjac.

Did a bit more with the Patina on the chainsword on this one.
