Hey guys,

So a while back I started playing AVP3 and, when playing as either a Marine or Alien all I could think was "This should be 40k".

Wouldn't it be awesome if we could get our mitts on a multiplayer game where a handful of Marine players with no respawns face off against Genestealers? It could work a little like L4D

At any rate... Gief plx.

There was one on the PC, and PS3 I think. It's a few years old, but didn't do too bad a job of the Terminators.
Was SM only though, no playing the Genestealers on that one.

Here it is: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Space_Hulk:_Vengeance_of_the_Blood_Angels

That's not all FPS though. There's squad control too.

A new Space Hulk game would be good.

Well, Gearbox is working on Aliens: Colonial Marines, which will be a squad based bug hunt. That's as close as you'll get. I wish there was a proper Space Hulk game for the 21st century too though. I'd play the hell out of it.

Considering it's been in development (Colonial Marines) for almost ten years, if not more, I really have lost hope for that game.

Colonial Marines featured in an IGN article a few days ago which listed the game as "stable": It attributed the lull in development time to Gearbox having to bail out Duke Nukem Forever.

2 vapourware games turn into one real one? Odd, but nice.
Might have to hunt down IGN for a look at that.

I thought it was a typo, as it didn't make sense. So, assume lots, there's me waffling on about old games, and getting the details wrong as usual

There was an even older one than that titled simply "Space Hulk".

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Space_Hulk_(video_game)

The game had you controlling either one or two squads of Deathwing terminators while attempting to achieve your mission objective (you personally were acting as mission control back on the nearby command ship). The game included "Freeze Time", which was basically a mode that allowed you to pause the game while you issued orders to your marines using an overhead map. Unfortunately, FreezeTime quickly counted down, and the only way you could replenish it was by turning it off...

You also had the ability to take direct control of one of your marines and direct him that way.

The game was "faux fps". The game displayed what each of the marines in one of your squads could see, and in that respect it resembled a standard fps. But the map was clearly designed using the tiles from the table-top game, and you could only turn in 90 degree intervals. Still, given the environment that you were fighting in, the restriction wasn't that big of a deal most of the time.

The game could get EXTREMELY tense at times due to the pressure of simultaneously managing your marines while fighting off genestealer attacks, all in a very limited amount of time. But it was an excellent game. I miss it.

It had a very long campaign included, though unfortunately I never did manage to complete it.
