How many points do each battle box come with? I heard that they aren't all equal value. I want to make sure my cygnar and khador sets will be playable on day 1.

Cygnar is 11 points. What's the Khador battlebox include?

Found it, Khador is also 11 points.

http://www.forwardkommander.com This might be useful to you. It's a bit iffy on theme lists but works well otherwise.

Cryx is 14.

The boxes used to be within 1-2 points of each other but that was Mk.I rules. Since warcasters don't have points costs anymore it kind of skewed the boxes.

What about the other factions?

There are only 4 battleboxes for Warmachine now. They are:

Cygnar, Khador, and Protectorate of Menoth, all with 11 points, and Cryx with 14.

There is a recommended list for Retribution, and there used to be Gorten and Magnus boxes for mercs, but no more.

The beastly side of the game, Hordes, has 4 starters as well.
Trollblood, Skorne, Circle, and Legion of Everblight.
I believe they all are same point level.

As an aside, the battle boxes are all balanced against each other, even with the slightly disparate point costs.

I would have to disagree on that one
when you bump up to 15 points is where it all get balanced

Cygnar and Khador is low on points
Menoth have no choirs
Cyrx have the most points

So far

They´re balanced enough for pure startebox games played by beginners at least.
No battlebox (or warpack) has a really pronounced advantage above the others, even though they vary slightly in points included (Cryx and Legion of Everblight are at 14 points afaik) or lack key elements "needed" in higher level games (Choir).

Hmmmm....im somewhat confused. I wonder if an 11 point starter box is really equal to a 14 point set. Seems like it wouldn't be the case. I mean, points are points, right? It seems like cryx has a 3 point lead which, I would have to believe, would be quite an advantage.

To play it safe I may skip cryx anyway. Frankly, cryx seems pretty cool to me but I dont Like the look of those bone jack dog things really at all. I like the LOOK of the menoth army but I dont really get the flavor of their theme. *sigh

I'm traveling an hour tomorrow to the closest FLGS to browse. I can't wait!

The Cryx battlebox has a brutal learning curve.
When the opponent has a round of good shooting, everything can die.

The Protectorate of Menoth uses the purifying fire of their god to burn the heretics. What's not to get?

How many pts. come in the Legion of the Everblight Battlebox for Hordes? Also what advice do you have in terms of army selection for someone just getting into Warmachine? I normally play Tau in 40k, I'd like an army the strategic wise is similar to them

There really isn't one. Each faction has a variety of tatics/builds. The closest thing would by Cygnar.
