I, for one, do not like where Rockstar is going with it at all! (If anyone's played the first two games, you should know what I'm talking about)

Go ahead and elaborate. I liked the first two games, but most gaming sites are blocked at my work place. What have they done?

A jungle? Whaaaaaaat?
If I wanted Max Payne in a jungle, I would probably just play Farcry or something.
A jungle scenario just doesn't seem right.
According to Rockstar's Sam Houser, they are starting a new chapter of Max's life with the game. "This is Max as we've never seen him before, a few years older, more world-weary and cynical than ever." Since the last game, the press release states Max has left New York behind and has "drifted from bad to worse." The press release then goes on to say Max has been double-crossed in this new city and he is searching for the truth and a way out.[4][7] The game will be set in São Paulo, where Payne is working in the private security sector for a wealthy local family, set 12 years after the events of the second game.[10]. Rockstar Initially claimed that series staple James McCaffrey would not return to the role of Max Payne, instead opting for an older actor[11]. However, in a May edition of Edge it was confirmed that James McCaffrey will not only return to voice Max Payne, but will also return in a full acting role through motion capture.[5]
That doesn't even sound like a game from the same series.

Indeed. I don't like how Max looks now, too. =/
Saying that, I didn't like Max Payne 2, either. But the first was amazing.

I could tolerate Max Payne 2. Heck it didn't even feel like a sequel. It felt like it was 1.5 or something. But that above, might as well be called something totally different.

I remember how fething disturbing the first game was to me. I couldn't exactly tell you why. I guess it was the paranoia and despair one should feel if their family was murdered, they were surrounded by psychopathic drug addicts, and they were on the run for their life. I don't think anything could really match up to the first game's sheer amount of grit and grime.
The second one was laughable, and perhaps proved that they had milked the setting for everything it was worth. I thought the series would probably tank, and if it didn't, it would definitely need some sort of a reboot.
It looks like this 'reboot' is in order, but the setting is definitely questionable. The reason I loved the first one is because the setting played into it's own strengths, creating some malevolent caricature of New York. Placing the game in Brazil will have no chance of achieving the same affect. I've already played numerous games set in the jungle, and none of them have succeeded in making me feel oppressed or uncomfortable like Max Payne did.
I'll see how it turns out. Any hype I might've had for this game has come and gone by now.

By the sounds of it, it will not be "Max Payne in the Jungle"--but "Max Payne in Brazil".
Would you have complained if Payne had ended up in the Jersey Pine Barrens in the first two games when he was fleeing baddies?
No, you wouldn't have.
The jungle is just a convenient escape route, which is likely how we'll see it played out.

Okay that sounds better, because if Max is in this city, then I am totally cool with it.

Eh, I suppose, but the game being played during the day makes it look like just another GTA.

Yea, because Max Payne totally had carjackings, repetative missions, OTT car chases, and lame penis jokes everywhere
Sorry, but how does the fact that it's a totally linear 3rd Person shooter/action game make it in any way similar to GTA?

I am unsure either.
I mean Max Payne without rain and grey houses?
Bright sunlight and white houses?
Where is the noir in that?

The first one was great; genuinely original and thought provoking, although the insta-death grenade down the stairs was used to often and pretty daft.
The second one was great fun, but the narrative and 'feel' wasn't as good as the first one.
Third one looks like it's just going to be another generic bullet-time shooter, but hopefully I'll be proven wrong.
