I have been using this nice set of brushes from The Range for a tenner, but they keep fraying roughly at the same time, and I replace them, and it happens it again, anyone have any suggestions for some decent brushes?

Natural bristle brushes will tend to last longer (or at least keep their point longer) than their synthetic counterparts. I've had some Red Sable and Kolinsky Sable brushes that have lasted a few years now. Bristles have fallen out on the older ones, but they still hold a point.

I think how long a brush lasts is more about how you treat it than the quality of the brush.

I nver left them in the water, and always dried them off straight down to try and prevent fraying, but always the same happens. I will have a look at kolinsky

I have to agree that looking after them will significantly increase their lifespan. I've been using the same $2-3 brushes for a bout a year and a half maybe a bit more. So far I think I've lost about two of them to wear and then there were a couple of them in the same set anyway.

Though for the more detailed oriented brushes I tend to spend a bit more on them. Of course around here that means the GW ones since I can't find any others.

Art supply stores or craft shops are your friend for brushes, nOt_u.

Brush cleaner and brush soap help prolonging the life of the brushes. Even cheaper ones.

I use a brand called Dynasty. They feel identical to GW ones , even same color. Almost as if they had different names stamped onto the same brush -_-

Another good thing is they cost like $7 for pack of 5 brushes

I have gotten loads of life out of my Winsor & Newton Series 7 brush. In fact its the only brush i use since the point is so good! On top of that, the cost is pretty good. If you look at how much a box of minis costs (almost $45+) you could get an amazing quality set of brushes for that price and get to experience the difference that top quality makes.
