Subject: Gluing plastic to metal question.

Hey, I was just wondering If anyone could help me out. Now I've been converting minis for a long time now, but no too many metal ones. Bottom line, I just wanted to know if I would need to pin a metal model if the parts that I want to glue are plastic. Like if I were to chop off Eldrad's Staff to replace it with a plastic word? Ive glued plastic to metal before and it does hold well, but Iv'e never actually used them for a long time to know how easily it can come off. I know not to really handle the model in that area in games and stuff. Sorry if this might have been asked before, but thanks If you can help.

Superglue has always been enough for me but if the join is especially fragile then pinning as well is probably your best bet.

You shouldn't need to unless its a heavy metal piece on a plastic frame. That said, any extra stability helps, especially for small connections. If you don't pin you may want to take a knife and carefully scratch a texture into both surfaces to be glued, this gives the glue more surface area and helps give the parts a bit of grip. Some people like to use greenstuff along with superglue but I feel that is best reserved for parts that don't quite fit flush.
I play a couple of games with mostly metal models so I got in the habit of pinning every part and filing off every mold line. It takes a long time but the model counts are lower and I feel it really pays off with the quality I get.

Hmm...I kinda get what you mean, but if i just cut the part of the staff by his hand and glued the plastic sword, wouldn't it hold well? especially after priming and painting would you think?

I have pinned both his sword blade to his staff and replaced his sword arm with a pointing arm without much trouble - but I have fairly steady hands and drill bits that go small enough.
