How do you not include half-orcs and barbarians in PHB1? They seem to me in this day and age of gaming to be a staple choice.

Becouse you get Dragonborn and Teleporting Elves.

Actualt IMOPO:
1] Marketing, they did it so they would have somthing for the PHB2

2] Political Corectness: How does a 13 year old explain to a Parent where Half-Orcs Come from.

Didn't that book come out three years ago?

Half Orcs were also taken out in the transition from 1st ed to 2nd ed AD&D. Barbarians weren't in the 1st ed or 2nd ed PHs.

It just seems to me that half-orcs or orcish type characters and barbarians ought to be something you can choose from the start... not have to buy another book for it.

There is your problem. Just becuase you want a thing to be a certain way doesn't actually make it true.

Half-Orc are not staples like Dwarves, Elves, Halflings, and Humans. The PHB has a mix of the staple races and classes and two newer races. Half-Orcs are cool but are neither staple nor new(ish). PHB1 came out awhile ago now and it's original intent is an introduction to the new system.

I like Half-Orcs as well but I don't take it as an affront to Kord becuase primal classes and Half-Orc or in PHB2 instead of 1.

It's a D&D diety... mentioned in PHB1, even. Often associated with 'good brawler' types.

Everybody has favorites, and not every class or race has always been "core" in any given edition. No shame in that. You can always "re-skin" or change the fluff of an existing class or race to be a half orc barbarian if you want, and don't feel like buying another book for whatever reason. D&D isn't a competitive game, so it's even more open for the DM & players to tinker with to their hearts' content than, say, Warhammer.
