I'm starting an Imperial Guard army and I really love Sentinels. I like the way they look, I like the way they can be equipped, and I even like that the Scout version of the Sentinel has Move Through Cover and Scout.
However, I've already bought 2 on a whim with a few boxes of troops and began to wonder how tactically viable they're even going to be.
Can anyone give me some insight?

Very useful indeed. I would go for a mixture of armoured and light. Armoured with Plasma Cannons = A strong first turn with Light scouts and a good battle line.

Outflanking scout sentinels with autocannons for side armour shots are decent. Not uber competitive by any stretch, but again, the models are sweet and its fun. Also, heavy flamers occasionally for flushing out back field objective campers like SM scouts or grots. Lascannons and missiles are meh due to one shot at BS3, and multilasers are just...no.

another great trick is with the armoured sentinels that is often overlooked. case in point was a game i played yesturday. the blood angel player droped his furioso dread (with blood talons) infront of my combined 30 man squad out of a drop pod first turn. I know they cannot put up with that thing so, i have my sentinel shoot at it with its autocannon, didnt do much but make it notice. then during assault went into the dread with the armoured sentinel. he looked confused at first, then realized at the fifth round they were still locked up. I knew i couldnt kill that dread, but hey, my 65 points locked up a killing machine.

Take a plasma cannon and outflank, you're genna be able to shoot something, be it infantry or a tank.

I hope my IG mate never finds out about this.

only Armoured Sentinels can take PC, and they cannot outflank.

Also I happen to ADORE sentinels for my guard army, and they are good, cheap distraction units, and in the case of the PC armour sentinel, an underlooked killer. Have them walk near your tanks to prevent melee and to prose a challange, go for the MEQ killer tank, or the TEQ killer walker?

Excellent info. Sentinels are one of my favorite models in the IG range. I've been running two sentinels in separate squads to harass my friend's SW army. I've run them with autocannons and lascannons with decent results. We're going to game today so I'll try running them as armored with plasmas, that should spook him!

if you find a tactical squad with no power weapons, assault them too with an armoured sentinel company.

if i play some super large point games, 2500+, i will run three squadrons of them. sqd 1, armoured sentinels with autocannon, autocannon, missle launcher. sqd 2, armoured with lascannon on all three. sqd 3, scouts with auto cannon, and two hvy flamers. the scouts also have hunter killer missles.
