With all of the sarcastic, passive aggressive, down right mean attacks on this author, lets look at the good aspects of his work.
1. Making a SM army supremely competitive and varied in its ability to smite in the name of the Emperor.
2. Making BA the best CC army in the SM arsenal.
3. Making the GK the newest and for many the new and shining example of a kick ass 40k army! these guys are sick!
4. Hopefully drinking at the nearest pub and laughing at the amount of hate and general discontent that surrounds his current work.

Mat Ward has the job that most of us dream of......is he perfect no....he is not but he is working for our hobby and should be given the respect that he deserves!

The hatred I agree is silly. But I see little in your post to convince anyone that the guy deserves respect just for doing his job. Although, I guess that also implies he doesn't deserve disrespect just for doing his job either.

Think you simply outlined the reasons why a lot of people get wound up by MW.

Doesn't stop us from imagining a world where the SM codexes were written by individuals capable of intelligent thought.

However, I've always found the C:SM to be one of the more balanced lists with many builds available. The fluff is pretty terrible though.

This thread should be locked due to misinformation.

Mat ward is not responsible for the coolness of GK, he is not a modeler. Their rules could be a LOT better, but are better than they used to be, and their fluff is the worst fluff we have ever seen published by GW, other than C.S Goto.

I love 40k fluff... its bloody, messy, and all around destructive.. but i base my 40k experience on the Table....not fluff.....my Tau were able to shoot the sh*t out of a BA army that relied on a Stormraven......this is how i relate to most of the forums...Fluff = good reading.....Table top = fun...

I agree with this. The hatred is a bit over the top, but he has been thanked already with a paycheck. It isn't as if he did this for free or out of the kindness of his heart.

Amidst the mists and coldest frosts he thrusts his fists against the posts and still insists he sees the ghosts.

Dogface, I'm not a fluff guy. I don't talk about the novels & characters and how the canon changed and so forth. And how the Primarchs are going to come back and yadda yadda.

I'm the gamer type with little concern of the fluff. But having just heard that the GKs supposedly anointed or bathed or painted themselves in sacrificed SoB blood, so they could deal with some Daemons ... just lame.

These are the guys who have *no* fear or possibility of being tainted or tempted. And they'll wack 'non-tainted' SoBs to make sure they can handle the current daemon crisis? (Do I have this right, guys?)

I'm not squeamish in the least, but the GKs going all Vlad Tepes on us? Pfff. C'mon.

I'm not hating on MW, but this little tidbit is a major swing and miss. If there are any Boy Scouts in the Imperial Service, it'd be the GKs ... with the penchant for non-mercy killing of heretics.

But blood dipping? That's silly.

I would also like to thank Matt Ward. He has shown me just how far beyond people take a simple semi-decent storyline and game and allow it to become a major focus in their lives by all the complaints they seem to create while not having far more constructive things to do with their time. I thank him and people like him for keeping those people segregated to the warhammer world as they like to refer to it and allowed others to roam seeking better alternatives. Thank you Matt Ward and those like you for unbalancing what was a fun game that I ventured into as a teen and leave as an adult. Scyrah awaits, and from what I can tell, better times as well.
