So here's the list that was used, on my side, his list is unfamiliar with me, and I wasn't able to see it.

HQ
220 Astorath
140 Captain with jump pack, power weapon, and bolt pistol
215 Honor Guard (5), jump packs, Chapter Banner, 2 Meltaguns, novitiate provides FNP

Elites
210 Assault Termies 3 lightning claws, 2 thunder hammers
85 Sanguinary Priest with Terminator Armor, Power weapon blood chalice for FNP
75 Sanguinary Priest with Jump pack, chain sword, bolt pistol, FNP
135 Furioso Dread with Blood Talons, Heavy flamer and meltagun

Troops
290 Death Company (10) 2 power weapons, 1 hammer, 2 infernus pistols
230 Assault Marines (10) 2 Meltaguns, 1 power weapon, meltabomb
150 Death company Dreadnought, Blood Talons, Heavy flamer, Meltagun, Magna-grapple
150 Death company Dreadnought, Blood Talons, Heavy flamer, Meltagun, Magna-grapple

Heavy
200 Storm Raven Twin-linked lascannon, twin-linked Multi-melta, 4 blood strike missiles
200 Storm Raven Twin-linked lascannon, twin-linked Multi-melta, 4 blood strike missiles
200 Storm Raven Twin-linked lascannon, twin-linked Multi-melta, 4 blood strike missiles

Looking for thoughts on this, I have almost all of this as of now, waiting on a dread and a Stormraven. I was thinking of running Astorath and Death company in a raven with a DC Dread. Captain and Honor Guard with Furioso Dread in a Stormraven, 5 termies and termie priest in another raven with a DC Dread, that leaves Assault squad and jump priest to descent in, ravens in reserve depending on game and initiative. Focus firing on one or two "tanks" each a turn with Stormravens machine spirit, or one if flat out for 3+ cover save, if not turbo-boosting then dreads come out doing some more focus fire if ravens couldn't down what they needed to, squads for clean up.

Always seeking wisdom, for what I haven't planned for.

This is my first attempt at a Battle Report, also I am kind of scatter brained being that this was written in the wee hours of the morning, so please bear with my inability to dazzle you all. This was a loose campaign match, in which for every tile your opponent has more then you, you are entitled to a 50 point advantage, upto a max of 250pts. I had 3 more tiles then my opponent so he had an extra 150pts.

So I ran the list exactly as stated above, against a crazy 2650 point Dark Eldar Army that had something like 20ish AP2 ranged weapons. There were something like 6 or 7 Raiders? (spikey black jabba the hut ships) with some being heavy support with lances?? The others were troop carriers I believe one was an armor 13 with lances, which included a 9- man incubi squad with Vect?, and the rest with some kind of Heavy 3 AP2 guns?, and tons of witches in them and normal DE troops?, and what not, blood brides with Lilath? was also in one. There were also 2 bike squads, and a full unit of those green goblin rider things. As well as a void raven bomber and some small fast craft that had 3 lance weapons and a few guys in it. As well as a ton of crazy poison weapons and blasters that he has. There was some other stuff, Humonculus?? or Archon?? something like that, but I can't really remember what happened with them.

As you can tell I know nothing of the Dark Eldar; in fact, they are the second xeno I have ever faced other then Nids. I have tard scribbled across my forehead when it comes to xeno purging. My angels have only ever preyed on the blood of fellow marines... Blood for the Bloo---- I mean Emperor! *Cough*

I was basically outnumbered 3 to 1. He rolled a 6 for pain tokens roll...

Mission, Capture and control, Deployment Pitched. Objectives at opposite ends of the table in buildings as far apart as possible.

I won initiative, held everything in reserve, as described above, which was then stolen from me, thank god I held everything in reserve and combat squaded and descent of angled the assault squad with priest. first two turns went really quick as there was nothing of mine on the board, and everything of his was deployed but the bomber which came in turn 5.

My assault squad came in turn 3, and combat squaded. One squad with 2 meltas and my sgt misshaped, and were misplaced in dangerous terrain. My raven with Termies and DC Dread turbo-boosted, and was pinned for a result of 2. It took 13 Attacks, Mostly Lances and some heavy 3 weapon that are ap 2, and came out looking pretty good all things considered.

Turn 4 everything else came in Turbo boosting. Termie Raven was immobilized. Termies with termie priest hopped out with DC dread, all Termies were slain by vects incubi squad. DC dread took a lance shortly and died after only being able to glance the nearest armor 10 thing with everything it had.

Turn 5 lost my Astorath DC raven to a wreck, only one DC bolter was caught in the ensuing fire and perished in the whole squad, they raged towards the nearest two bike squads and murdered them all in one fell swoop, not the most ideal targets but, rage is, well, blind. My Furioso, Honor guard, Cpt. raven made all saves from previous flat outing, was within a 6 inch move, and assaulted and cleared the enemies objective of troops. Nobody was on my objective either and it was not contested.

Game ended on turn 5, I contested an objective and he had 0. It was a tie game in our campaign for the unoccupied space we were fighting over. We hadn't been using the kill point resolution in the campaign, so we rolled for it and he won it by a roll off, which I believe he could've had it in kill points as well. It was a brutal fight, and I never gave up, but the Angels were a little less prideful that day, and seem to be growing ever hungrier for xeno blood.

I took about 850 or so points in losses. I did lose both of my troops to the green goblin riders, and a raider, around turn 4, which I was saving amazingly on to last that long. After the misshape, I ran the priests' half of the unit to the other half and kept them in the difficult terrain where there were placed well away from my objective, to try and draw some attention since they were screwed, he wiped them out, but used resources to do so that he should've used else where, like taking my objective instead. Kept things busy and brutal, didn't down all that much of his stuff, took off a lot of weapons and did some immobilized results to a pair of raiders, blew one up and wrecked one. took out the small 3 lance weapon craft as well, and took his bikes, void raven was untouched, coming in so late, and green goblin squad was barely scratched.

I think that I was just rolling terribly with my Storm Ravens weapons. The Lascannons and Multi-meltas, that they were all outfitted with didn't quite work as planned, even with my power of the machine spirit, and re-rolls to hit, and all of my blood strike missles were wasted to 1's and 2's to hit with my one opportunity to use them with my Furioso honor guard Raven, during the only time a raven moved 6" in the entire game or less and could shoot everything. Turned out they were also my most valuable asset, because of the movement they provided me with, and the fear they strike into the hearts of others.

Assault ramps are a godsend, as well as being able to carry 12 models and 1 dreadnought each, oh and did I mention the ceramite armor, poor poor meltaguns, I guess they don't get as hot as a ship entering orbit after all.... Beardsy if you ask me, but meh, I can deal with that.

I know that there wasn't much detail on the xeno side of things. All you need to know is that they moved a lot and very far each turn. I just remember them moving back and forth a lot across the map and re-rolling to shoot out of the jabba the hut ships... grumble grumble...

** Also a side note, it was brought to our attention later that our fast skimmers in fact can not turbo bost.... so we shouldn't have been taking 3+ saves when we did, but still had the range of movement. That may have changed a lot, but mostly in my opponents favor I believe. Woops... Guess we learn things the hard way.

Any help with modifications on my list would be appreciated. He is going to run an even tougher list next time so he says, I was thinking about running a bunch of missle launcher Dev's in place of my Storm Ravens, but I love their ability to assault and crush things. Maybe taking Assault cannons would've done me better, I'm really not sure. Suggestions would be great, and appreciated!!

Commoragh (closer to the bottom)

Well i was able to make some units from his list, Green goblins= Hellions? "small 3 lance weapon craft" ravager? If your able to get the rest of his list then that might help a little.

I play a BA,GK, and nids player about 3-4 times a week, and so far, the Stormraven/ Baal predator has been the biggest threat to me when we play. could get some more of those

If you want to improve your list, I'd suggest taking better HQ choices. Taking a Captain is a bad idea, taking Astorath is worse. You have the equivalent of 3 Priests in your army, so why are you paying for Astorath's Red Thirst buffing ability, as well as the ability to take more than 1 DC unit? I'm not a fan of your Honor Guard either, you want 4 special weapons if you use them.

I would drop half the Death Company and take just 1 Hammer. That saves 160 points. You have to swap a Furioso for a DC Dread, but they cost the same and you can take up to 3 Priests in 1 Elite slot so not a big deal. I would also drop Astorath and the Captain to save 360. I would then spend 200 on 2 regular Librarians for HQs. With the additional 320 points left, I'd take another Assault Squad, but give the Sarge a Power Fist instead of a Power Weapon and Meltabombs for 235, and upgrade the existing Assault Sarge to be the same. This leaves 80 points. If you drop the Terminator Armor and PW from the Priest, along with some Magna-grapples you can add Lemartes to the DC and still have 15 points for wargear.

Current Record: 5 Wins, 6 Draws, 3 Losses 2000 points

In Progress: 500 points

MrEconomics, I appreciate your suggestions. I have run two Librarians which have no invuls, but the thing is that against Dark Eldar what will happen at least what always happens to me, is they have a much higher initiative then I do, so they go first in combat, even on the charge, I usually always lose my IC's, like my priests, also It was my first time taking Astorath, and it was kinda cool to have an army wide Furious Charge & Fearless even on my dread. Yes he sucks, but that extra boost was pretty cool. for basically the +1 S, because the Initiative doesn't even matter facing DE.

I have a really hard time finding a counter for their High I, invuls cost a lot, vehicles get lanced hard, he gets a lot of invuls in close combat, and my army doesn't do the long range shooting thing very well.

I am on the fence about dropping the Termies, especially because they sometimes actually stand up against a thrashing from even DE, and they totally own other armies with the priest in there.

It would've totally helped to have another assault squad in there that's forsure.

I just had to fill out some points and used them for the HG. my heavy was full, elites were full, Not enough for my vanguards, I wasn't much of a fan either. I think in the right situation they can be really good with their free FNP, you can outfit them and they cost exactly the same as Vanguards, but can only use 5. I will use all of your suggestions though next time and see if I can't kick his a** this time, instead of a lucky tie roll off loss.

I gotta say have you ever tried running vanguard vets with jumps and dual lightning claws, it is one of the hardest hitting units out there, especially if you get thirst. 10 man squad 40 PW attacks on the charge using heroic intervention, re-roll to wound, it's amazing. 600 pts is crazy though.

I have run two before in a list it was half my army but I tabled an Ultramarine player and I also ran it and obliterated a White Scars player. The 1D6 scatter is so great!
