The 3rd Bolt Action plastic set is almost here, uses the funny looking british weapon sprue but thats what we get for truescale I suppose
Additional deals are in the link below which include metal packs
http://www.warlordgames.co.uk/?p=10949
The plastics are almost here! Loads of options pepper the sprue along with plenty of posable plastic goodness. The modeling possibilities are vast!
With the option of building your Commandos with tin hat or their trademark green beret this set also includes the deadly Fairbairn-Sykes combat knife, smatchet close quarters blade and the Commando bergen backpack.
Striking from the sea, most often from the dark, the army and naval Commandos caused great apprehension to German sentries and garrisons all over occupied Europe in their daring hit and run raids. The brainchild of Winston Churchill himself who had seen the damage Boer commandos could do to a static defensive force at first hand.
This elite force (volunteers all) was Britain's only viable way of taking a land war to the all conquering German army, who had thought themselves safe from Britain's land forces.
* Enough plastic components to make 25 British Commando miniatures. Includes a host of options to allow for different weapon configurations
* and command models.
* Weapons included: Lee Enfield rifle No. 4 (plus scoped and bayoneted versions), Bren light machine gun, Thompson sub-machine gun, 2" mortar, Sten gun sub-machine guns, Webley revolver, Mills bomb grenades, bandoliers and the Tommies' trusty shovel!
* Round plastic bases (25mm diameter).
* Construction leaflet.
* Decals Set

I wonder how well they compare to Imperial Guardsmen. Otherwise, nice looking models and I might buy these.

I'm a bit disappointed with these, seeing as they are regular plastic British sprues with an extra strip added to the end to hold the berets, packs and knives.

Nice, though I've found the guns in the plastic Bolt Action kits to be way too thin and fiddly (even for true scale) for my liking. I'll stick with my Crusader metals.

True-scale? Their heads are massive.

The weapons are truescale, not the minis (which are heroic 28mm, like 90% of 28mm wargaming minis).
I saw the first two boxed sets in person last week and was able to get the contents out and inspect them closely. I was very impressed with the quality of the casting and plastic and with the character of the faces.
The detail on the bodies was a smidgen less crisp than I would've liked but was really nothing to complain about. But the weapons, indeed, looked very fiddly indeed.
Might get them for some AE-WW2 games - combine them with Mantic zombies!
R.

I thought the Commandos were famous for not having regiment colours on their uniform.
With the consequence that they were not protected as soldiers by the Geneva convention.

As owner of a British infantry kit I can say its an okay kit, again as with ze Germans the arms are a bit thin and some of the head choices are horrible, but overall, a good kit. All the commando kit really adds is new backpacks, berets and knife hands.

Hmm...anyone have a pic of these next to Cadian IG?
I'm curious about the heads, berets, and helmets. If they are the same size as Cadian IG, those bits would be useful.

The secret to painting a really big army is to keep at it. You can't reach your destination if you never take any steps.
I build IG...lots and lots of IG. |

Yea, usually when it comes to most historical 28mm minis, they will make Space Marines look almost truescale!

True that, Warlord's stuff looks slimmer and a bit more true scale when put alongside GW's stuff.

Does West Wind's swappable heads fit well on these guys?
Also, are there any good weapons replacements for them?
I'd like a batch of those, but they really look iffy as far as the weapons go.

At Games Workshop, we believe that how you behave does matter. We believe this so strongly that we have written it down in the Games Workshop Book. There is a section in the book where we talk about the values we expect all staff to demonstrate in their working lives. These values are Lawyers, Guns and Money. |

According to someone at warseer, a bit of GS is needed to fill in the neck
http://www.warseer.com/forums/showthread.php?t=298190
Weaponwise what are you lookign for? Anything stockless would work fine if you want to keep the arms. GW stuff looks big on them though
