...but have trouble thinking through

1) I am going to assume that a individual character model still has flanks and a facing correct? If I start the turn facing one way I cannot charge whereever I want. I know the book states this but just wanted to clarify that if a target for a charge is not in my front arc I cannot just pivot and charge I have to declare first anyway then charge

2) In combat say I have one Irongut left and Hero in the same unit (and that is all). The Irongut takes 4 wounds and has only 3 wounds. He dies. Does the extra wound go to the character or is that wound lost? I know if a hero dies his extra wounds are not carried over but what happens when a normal core infantry unit takes extra wounds and there is only a Hero or Lord left in the unit?

3) What happens if you pursue a fleeing unit after winning combat, cut them down then move forward into another fleeing character model, like say an enemy wizard that was already fleeing?

4) you must always declare a charge to assault a building, so I am guessing any missile type unit that is bunkering in it can stand and shoot?

Thats all

1. You assume correct, single models do not have 360 LoS, they have facing and everything just like a normal unit.

2.If they direct all the attacks into the irongut, the gut would take 3 wounds, with one being lost. It doesnt carry over to the character.

3. That unit must make a flee roll, IF he already fled this phase he is caught and destroyed.

4. correct

Units with the Random Movement rule do not have to declare a charge, and other units that do might well be too close for a stand and shoot.

Ok I did that wrong. I was one inch away from the building since I had failed an assault, I declared a charge on it again and I let him Stand and Shoot.

As a result he shot me dead since I had only 2 ogres left and he had 8 archers in the building. (3 story building)

If the unit has quick to fire then they can always stand and shoot, regardless of distance.
