Completely new to DE (just picked up the codex a few days ago, actually). Anyway, still trying to figure what I want to get first and thought this list might be a good starting point. Let me know of anything you'd recommend changing:
Greetings and welcome. As usual for new players I'll recommend my
DE Tactica (even though it's not fully finished, though I'll do that any century now) you can find the link in my sig. You can also look around for Ketara or Dashofpepper's tacticas in the forum section, they're also both good. You'll get a lot of base advice that will really help you on a couple fronts. Now, let's look at the list;
HQ:
Haemonculus Ancient w/ Liquifier gun = 90
An important question here is - what is this unit for? It appears to be for riding in the Venom, giving the Trueborn
FNP, and using a flamer template.
Okay...personally I think you could find a better use for a Haemy, but the big thing that leaps out to me is the absolute wastefulness of points in making him an Ancient. Seriously, look at the cost of the upgrade, look at the stats gained, and then ask yourself how those stats are going to help the Haemy do what he's supposed to do? (hint - not at all).
DE don't have a lot of points to waste, and this is even more true in low point games. I strongly advise against buying the upgrade of Ancient.
10 Warriors w/ Splinter Cannon = 90
1 Raider w/ Splinter Rack, Flickerfield = 80
I am personally against splinter racks as I think they are too expensive for what they provide. I'll also note you're giving up using a special weapon by not taking either a Blaster or Shredder (I'd suggest Blaster). Yeah, sure, you don't get the re-roll to wound synergy with the splinter racks - big deal, you wound on a 2+ versus almost any infantry anyway and you melt through their armor. Plus it gives the unit the ability to shoot up enemy armor if needed.
10 Wyches w/ hekatrix, 2 hydra gauntlets, agonizer = 150
1 Raider w/ flickerfield = 70
No complaints here. Though I will note that, in general, I'm really against a
DE list with only two Troop options. Our units are fragile, and Troops are super valuable in 5th edition. I'd take more than two. (at 1000 I'm usually fielding 3-4)
4 Trueborn w/ 4 blasters = 93
1 Venom + Extra Splinter Cannon = 65
No complaints, though their mission does not gel well with the Haemy. Blasters and Liquifiers generally shouldn't be fired at the same thing. Plus, they really don't need
FNP.
3 Ravagers w/ Flickerfields = 345
(Should I run these all darklances, or make one of them with Disintegrator Cannons?)
The best answer is 'depends'
In general tourney advice mode I would say Lances.
If for some strange reason your local meta is almost entirely footslooging hordes with only 2-3 vehicles per army than take the Dissie.
