hey all..

Well as I am painting *gasp* RED orks, I needed a red primer for my models base coat. Lo and behold, my fiancee (of all people) suggested Halfords.

I popped down there, and hey presto, a large range of plastic and metal primers in many colours, and for not too bad a price, less than GW anyway.

It covers really well, and dries nice and fast, so by the time the 10th is primed, the first is ready for painting.

Just a handy tip for cheap quality primers...

Have fun painting!!

Just glanced at the Halford's website (I'm in the US, but the name sounded familiar) - seems like a combo outdoor and automotive store, right? If so, I'm not surprised. Lots of quality sprays available at automotive and home improvement stores, but if a newbie (stateside, at least) asked me for the best quality:price ratio, I'd send them to Walmart for the $0.99 cans. You can prime an army for the cost of one can of GW spray and the results are perfectly acceptable.

How similar is the finish to the standard satin style finish of GW paints from pots? I usually find automotive paint to be too glossy or matt by comparison so was wondering how it compares.

Always used Halfords - i find the spray superior to GW's anyway!

I always buy the .99 cent Wal Mart spray.

It doesn't spray very thick, thus not obsecuring detail on the model itself. Also, I find that paint sticks to the primer better than the GW stuff anyways

I find that it's ok on metal models, but not the best...oh, and it works well on the resin FW models also

Given that FW's treadheads recommend Halfords, I'd say pretty well.

A proper primer is matt anyway. It also provides a surface paint LIKES to stick to. It actually makes painting easier.

I use duplicolor autoprimers here (can't get Halfords and don't have Walmarts) and they give me good results.

I'm OVER 50 (and so far over everyone's BS, too).
