Ok I know I already had a thread on choosing a army choose grey knights than started some short lived threads about them and then suddenly switched to thinking of starting dark eldar a week later (fourtunetly i haven't bought anything) so then I started to dought my choice agian then stopped myself and here i am asking ou to just post grey knights or dark eldar( wichever you like best) by the end of my sunday I check what got posted more and if you dont klike my idea or think my threads are getting anoying please send me a private message. I would have made this a poll, but it's kind of pointless without more context. Which models look like more fun to paint? Do you prefer tough guys who punch stuff, or fast raiders full of bondage elves with poison weapons? What kind of playstyle are you attracted to? There's a lot of things to consider when starting a new army.

Personally I'd say Dark Eldar just because their range is fantastic and they deserve players after so many years being neglected.

I think you can probably make an army that would appeal to you out of either list. If I had the time to spend on painting, I'd have a Dark Eldar force as well as my Space marines and Grey Knights, because the Dark Eldar 'theme' is amuses me considerably (plenty of opportunity for diabolical cackling and general evilness).

Basically I'd say if you want a flamboyant, fast-moving, hard hitting but fragile and rather stylishly evil army, you'd pick Dark Eldar.

If you'd prefer more of a solid battering ram of a force, tougher but less manoeuverable, then pick Grey Knights.

But GW put considerable effort, it seems to me, into making each 'new' (revised) army seem more appealing than the last. A friend of my dad's had a guiding principle for wargamers: 'pick an army you can love, even when it loses, because lose you surely will.'

Well yeah, that's marketing. If they marketed Grey Knights as "They'll die to plasma guns like everyone else!" they wouldn't sell as many.
EDIT: That's a very good principle though. I wish more people followed it. I love playing my Guard, even if I get massacred.

Wow! so far many people like dark eldar more unexpected makes me feel kinda like jumping off both band wagons and go for something else like guard.

Oh yeah almost forgot this thing got started because i love the fluff and miniatures for both of them they match two armies of my not long past childhood.

Ironically, this is turning out to be Grey Knights for me. Thank god my Steel Templars have a similar color scheme (not much overlap besides some loaned vehicles though :/). Good words of wisdom though.

On Topic: I would go with Dark Eldar if they fit your playstyle. They're an amazing army with a wide variety of options - overall a solid 5th ed codex with more interesting flair than most of the others.

Both are going to be tougher to play, so pick the one you like the feel of better. DE have an absolute tonne of firepower and can hit an move like nobody else, but cannot take much punishment back. GK have absolutely amazing durability and can shoot or assault as needed, but they have a short range and need to be meanuvered in close. That with a small model count means that as soon as your dice go it's over.

Right now i'm kinda favoring going for catachans (yes i amspontaneousness like that i just think they look too cool and since i can't choose between two options i am going for a third).

Just keep in mind that Guard of any variety are going to be expensive and take up a lot of room. Catachans are boss though.

I'll just take it slow and there probably gonna be the Gorick 8th regiment (the one the only) i'll use either catachans or converted cadians.
