Hey, basically i have been playing 40k for the past couple of years and now i have started to collect warhammer fantasy so i can play with my friend. The army i have chosen is warriors of chaos because although they have almost no form of ballistic attack with the exception of the hellcannon they do have absoloutly amazing core units and heros. I have already purchased an army off Ebay and it will be here in the next few days.

Below is a list of what i have purchased and howmuch for:

Archeon on mount (brand new) : £12

Chaos lord: £3

12x Chaos warriors (brand new): £4

8x Chaos knights: £16

10x Chaos warhounds: £9

I understand this is a relatively basic army and my main tactic for this force as an in-experienced player is simply to send archeon, knights and warhounds to rush into the enemy. Hopefully take out the archers and cannon if they have one. Then although they are amazing they will most likely not suceed in taking out the whole army but then the trusty chaos warriors lead by a lord will finish the remaining enemy soilders.

Oh and yeah my friends army is a high elves army with many archers, bolt thrower, dragon princes and mostly spearmen after that.

So, what do you think?

uhm you can only take archeon at 3000 pts just sharing;p

but thats a good start with units
i would suggest buying another box of warriors and a sorcerer, then if you want a more hordeish feel to your army buy marauders if you want a more elite force then stick to warriors. that would be a more solid core

then after that it all depends on how you want your army to look like you can go monsters with ogres, trolls, dragon ogres, and shaggoths. you can also go for chosen and warshrines, or get more knights to go for a mounted chaos list. it all depends on playing style and army preference

I had my suspicions that i would have trouble using archeon but its only a fun game with my freind so im sure ill get away with it ;D

How do you think i would do against my freinds army?

25 Archers
20 Spearmen
5 Dragon princes
5 Silver helms
Bolt thrower

I have no idea about my armys points value or his so it could be unfair at the moment.

I'd say Archaon wins it by himself

(Note: Besides Archaon being well over the 25% cap for the army total, whatever list you make from these models is going to be doubly illegal because it doesn't have enough units. You need 3 non-hero units, and warhounds don't count. So I'd say pick up some more warriors, and either don't use Archaon for now, or count him as an exalted or lord on demonic mount that just happens to look way awesome.)

Spoiler:
Maybe something like this for a 1000 point starter list?

H: Exalted Hero - charmed shield, ironcurse icon, demonic mount = 170

C: 12 Warriors - musician, halberds, shields = 210
C: 12 Warriors - musician, halberds, shields = 210
C: 5 Warhounds = 30
C: 5 Warhounds = 30

S: 8 Knights - standard, musician = 350
--------
1000

No marks anywhere, but it gets lots of models on the table and right to killing. While you have lots of options for your warriors, halberds are probably the best in the end, so might as well build them that way from the start. Musicians, of course, are a must

warhounds count towards the number of units you need they only dont count towards the percentage of minimum core you need(25%)

My interpretation of that section is quite different, and no one has disagreed with me yet. Don't have a BRB with me, but I can quote it later if you need it ... Basically, it says that things that say they don't count for core (or whatever) don't count for either % or the min 3 units.
