Anyone else use ArmyPainter Brushes? I just have to say wow! Best Brushes i've used so far, and yes i do have W&N Kolinsky sable series 7
But these ArmyPainter brushes seem to have a auto targetting system on them and puts the paint where you want it to go lol!

Thats a shame dude! What ones you use now?

Best thing i do is to wash the brush out in water by tapping the side of what the water is in often and re-shape the brush with my mouth (dont use turps with this brush ever now) Lol!
I try not to let the brush dry out ever until i stop! That may help the life of the brushes you use.

Maybe is was a faulty brush or did it happen to all of your brushes?

I'm well happy with them, well the standard brush anyway, because the tip is so good you could proberly do all the details and highlights with the same brush!

I have/had 4 brushes made by them, the regiment, character, insane detail and a drybrush. I generally take good care of my brushes (store with bristles down, nurturing them with some artistic soap, singing them lullabies, etc) I use da Vinci brushes mainly nowadays.
Anyway, I was really enthusiastic about the wargamer brushed at first, but like I said earlier they started losing hair very quickly (the insane detail brush literally has 3 hairs left).

Hope you have more luck with yours!

I use 5 brushes, 3 Army painter brushes (Monster, Regiment, and Hobby Highlighting, the Citadel Standard Brush, and a P3 Fine Detail brush. I've had no problems with most of my brushes, but the Army Painter brush gave me some troubles. My hobby highlighting and the wargamer monster brushes fell of of the wooden part of the brush. So I was stuck with two pieces. I glued them back on and went on with life, but when it happened, I was a little astounded that my brush fell apart so quickly after having just gotten it.

@fiddler: I always thought you were meant to store brushed bristles up so as not to bend them on the bottom of the cup/pot/holder you use for them.

@OP: I gave some thought to buying these and now I may try them out.

I have a AP regiment brush and I love it. I had a monster brush but the bristles fell out. I have found their brushes to be real hit or miss with quality at time of purschase as well. It has been difficult to find them with the bristles not bent back in the clear sleeve. And once they are bent like that I have never been able to get them back into shape. This is why I dont mail order brushes.

The Orks are the pinnacle of creation. For them, the great struggle is won. They have evolved a society which knows no stress or angst. Who are we to judge them? We Eldar who have failed, or the Humans, on the road to ruin in their turn? And why? Because we sought answers to questions that an Ork wouldn't even bother to ask! We see a culture that is strong and despise it as crude.

I would say (based upon all the other pampering fiddler gave his brushes) that he stores them suspended in air somehow. Though if he was storing them bristles down in a cup, maybe thats why, but who knows?

Storing a brush upside down is actually a bad idea. The hairs go up inside the metal bit of the brush, where they are glued together. Water will weaken the glue over time, which will make your brush loose hair. If you store them bristles down, the water that gets soakes up while paining and rinsing the brush has a way to flow out.
Obviously don't let the brush rest on the bristles, I slide the plastic covers that come with most brushes back after every painting session, and let them rest on these.

Ok so we have learnt how not to and how to love our brushes, but on the basis of performance wise, i like the army painter brush more than the series 7.

So how about performance for the army painter?

As for how long it lives for can be an issue over time and maybe get costly. But i picked up the Hobby :- Drybrush, Standard, Small Detail and Wargamer Insane Detail all for £10, but heres a crunch, a Winsor & Newton Series 7 00 costs £8 and that is just for 1 brush, so ok maybe the W&N will last longer, but so could the army painters. i think its is just the luck of the dice.

These companies chuck out brush after brush after brush, so yeah! maybe you will get a few dud ones.

Performance wise, its my best dancer so far lol!

Ok, haven't seen one in a store in like...forever, but back in the late 80's-early 90's they had this metal can with two posts and between the two posts was a spiral bit of metal (like a spring...) that held the brushes upside down. It was specifically for cleaning and storing your brushes and it worked GREAT. I still have mine. I'll try to find a picture of it.

It's a brilliant idea. Probably got it from those triangular rubber things you put on schoolkids' pencils.

I like the army painter Monster due to it's size but for precision and detail I'll stick to my kolinskies.

Yes do . They're great for the price you pay for them, and I've found they're very very hard wearing. Had some over a year now and they're still in great shape! Did I mention the price too?
I never let thm dry out, reshape the bristles with my mouth (bad habit but meh only I use them) and occasionaly they get brush soaped too just to help them stay in shape. Get great control with them, and the flow is brilliant. The monster brush specificly is good for washing large areas as the wash doesn't get to just flood off the brush, smaller areas it's trickier.
Seem to use the regiment brush as the workhorse, it's point is fine enough to do a lot of detail as well as the large areas, though when highlighting usually try to remember to use the detail brush.

The army painter brushes are not bad. I own several of them and use them. The Monster and Regiment brush see most use, the drybrush sees some work as well.

I prefer Kolinksy Sabre Brushes by DaVinci for most of my work, though. For the most of the workload a size 2 Kolinsky has a better reservoir and a better point than the similar sized Regiment brush. It helps that the DaVinci brushes are cheaper as well.

Now i've used the Army Painter Standard brush for a bit, i do think that its abit small for the base colour painting, what size Army Painter is better for this?
