I was playing in a timed tournament setting where there are no rolls for the game to end, you go until time runs out (but you have to finish the turn). So basically everyone knows exactly when the game will end.

I went second. I controlled more objectives (primary objective) but kill points were really close. On my opponents last turn he moves everything out in the open, and shoots everything he can. Then on my turn all of his infantry go to ground.

I know this is technically not against the rules but since he knew the game was going to end he basically got to shoot everything of mine in the open (because he moved his out of cover for better firing lanes) and then he gets free cover.

This isn't really an issue that GW can address since the RAW dictate rolls to see when the game ends, but I think it should be included in tournaments. It's hard enough going second (I play DE) but free cover on the last turn seems kinda unfair.

Oh no, a 6+ cover save! NERF!

Seriously, is it THAT bad?

For thirteen years I had a dog with fur the darkest black. For thirteen years he was my friend, oh how I want him back.

Hold on...

If it was his last turn - how the hell did he shoot THEN go to ground?!

That's illegal.

Well when he got first turn you got the ability to deploy in response to his and therefore deny him crucial LOS and hamper his first-turn blitz, and now that you had the critical last turn of the game where you can (if you needed to) make last-minute dashes for the objective and claim some more kill points, I think it's only fair he take advantage of whatever he can to deny you a win, provided it's within the rules.

Well I realize that the situation doesn't come up a lot but yes it did change the outcome of the game. I still won the primary but the secondary was a tie, and I would have one if he hadn't gone to ground.

It gave his marines an invulnerable save that they would not have had against my AP2 weapons. He had two squads left with one guy because he rolled at least one 6 to prevent a wound on each squad.

So either I would have wiped out his squads (giving me more kill points) or he would have stayed in cover and gotten fewer shots on my guys (potentially giving him fewer kill points)

He shot at the top of 5 on his turn.
He went to ground at the bottom of 5 on my turn.

@dimmy52

I agree about objectives but that wasn't the issue. But like I said I couldn't get the kill points due to his cover save, or theoritcally I would have hard a harder time wiping out a squad contesting or claiming an objective.

Also IMO going second at the start of the game is rarely an advantage and I don't think the last turn bonus makes up for that, but that's really another debate entirely.

My point is only during timed games when you know when the game will end. During normal games if he did that it would have been a huge disadvantage to him next turn when he couldn't move or shoot, so I have no issues with that. It's just that he knew he wouldn't have a next turn.

"and shoots everything he can. Then on his turn all of his infantry go to ground"
