Dakkaites,
I've been looking at the GTs and Cons and I've noticed that a lot of them (if not all of them) happen on Sat and Sun with other days occasionally. Off the top of your head, are there any that don't take place on Sundays? Say, just Friday and Saturday or Thursday, Friday and Saturday?

What's your reasoning for not wanting it to be on a Sunday? Off the top of my head, none of the east coast events are really without a Sunday component. Shop tournaments usually are since they're 1 day events, but if you need 2 days, it's always Sat/sunday to let people attend (not conflict with work).
If your reasons are religious and wanting to attend church, usually the sunday component starts later (10am) since it's a 2 game day (typically). I'd consider trying to find a church/place of worship in the area and attending a saturday evening mass/early morning. This if of course if that's your reason for it, but I think it's workable.

Yes, it's religious. I don't go to tournaments or shop or go to events, etc on Sundays. I don't really want to start religious discussion here, but yeah.
I was just wondering if any happen over a holiday weekend where say Friday is a day off of work for everybody and that way the tournament can run on Friday and Saturday and not on Sunday.
I know it's a long shot, but thanks for a sincere response.

As Target said, most bigger events (like GTs) are two days, and due to the nature of the work week that's inevitably Saturday and Sunday. If they have Friday, that's in addition to Sat and Sun. On the plus side, standard smaller one-day events are almost always on Saturdays, so if Sundays are completely no-go for you, then at least you can attend one day events with little or no hindrance.
That said, he's also right about the timing on Sunday. With a rare few exceptions (like Adepticon), the games usually don't start until mid-late morning on Sunday. So if you want to attend services Sunday morning, you should be able to do that early and not miss out on gaming later.

Well, not knowing anything about your religion, I'd say if it's a matter of not wanting to miss attending mass/service, you could definitely make that work even with Sunday gaming, so don't give up on it quite yet! If not and it's more a matter of "Sunday is a day of rest, not to be used for war gaming", then yea, you're in a bit of a pickle as far as GT's go. I haven't ever seen a GT without a sunday component.
But, sometimes the fun of a Con (Adepticon, etc etc etc) isn't the main, 2 day tournament. It's the atmosphere, side events, small tournaments running that only run on single days. You could always attend for just the friday/saturday portions and play in single day events/sightsee the vendors and coolness (most large cons have friday evening components) and just forgo the 2day offerings.
Edit: Was just thinking about Nova (this is near Washington DC, so probably a bit far, but it's an example). They'll have a team tournament friday (as well as other small events) and then warmahordes/malifaux/etc on Saturday, that don't require a sunday portion. Sure, if you want the big, 2 day GT, you're out of luck, but the other stuff can be just as good!

Yeah, I've been sticking mainly to the Saturday tournaments in my local area. Fortunately, 'Ard Boyz is on a Saturday as well.
Thanks again for the response.

The only GT that I know of that is in a one day format is the Ironman GT in January, and it is not too far from you in Las Vegas.

AdeptiCon's 40K team tournament is on Saturday only. The 40K Championships qualifier is on Friday. Fantasy has events that only run on Friday and Saturday.

This year Genghis Con in Denver had a 40k 5 game gt Friday and Saturday. And then a 3 round fantasy tournament that Sunday. This was back in February. Tacti-con may get run the same way, but it's not guaranteed. Tacti-con is in September so I would check it out as they start to release info on it.

If you're in Provo then Dragon's Keep runs (or at least ran) a number of smaller tournaments during the year. If you get to know Levi you could probably convince him to run a multi day tournament. Levi will do pretty much anything to keep his customers happy.
And now for a fairly safe assumption:
I, and several other LDS people I know, have played in tournaments or in other games on Sunday. Sometimes you can hit a ward up before, and sometimes you can't. In most larger cities you can find a meeting at nine and take off a little before the end to get to the venue on time.

Yeah, I play in the monthly tournaments at Dragons Keep, but I want to attend a GT sometime. This has been a great thread of resources for me.

I am LDS too, and it is easier to rationalize playing on a Sunday when I am doing it in another state.
