This last weekend I played a game with a friend of mine which is when this question arose. So I'll start out by giving a bit of background on the situation. I had a Storm Raven on the table, inside of the Storm Raven was one squad of assualt marines. Less then 2" away was a dread. Is it legal to embark the dread, move, say 6", then disembark the assualt marines. The way I looked at it was I could because they are two seperate units. Whereas my friend stated they were in the same unit so they could not do this, I politely explained that it is not possible for a dread to be in another unit. In the end, because we are both new players, we didnt really have enough understanding of the rules, so I just said I wouldn't do it and we could investigate the situation later. this really did not affect anything at that time so it wasn't a big deal but I am just curious at this point if it's actually possible.

I have read through the rules for embarking and disembarking but I cannot seem to find any concrete information to support either case in this specific situation.

Please provide some insight and thank you!

Yes, you can do that.

The SAME unit cannot embark and disembark in the same turn, however nothing stops one unit embarking and another disembarking. (well, normally it would have to be the other way round, the SR is special!)

Thank you for verifying this. If anyone would like to add anything to this please feel free too.

They are separate units. Three separate units. The rules are perfectly and utterly clear on this.

You must finish moving one unit before moving another, and cannot go back and move the first again once you have started moving a second.

Disembarking or embarking is part of that unit's move, so must be done at the same time as the rest of their movement.

Everything you did looks legal. Remember, of course, that since the transport moved before the assault squad got out, they could not move further in that movement phase after disembarking.
