I was just looking over a SW blog - http://space-wolves-grey.blogspot.com/ - and I was looking at his army lists he has wolf guard in his squads. Per say an example would be "Wolf Guard, 9 GH..." and I was wondering what do wolf guard give to the squads they join other than an extra model and a possible additional special weapon?
just curious because I would also like my count as SW army be some what effective and playable and have the units loaded out the way I would like.

Increased leadership, important for those Counter-Attack leadership tests
Also weapon upgrades and the like are generally better value compared to Grey Hunter/Blood Claw equivalents, and even in comparison to Vanilla Codex sergeants

Yeah the two main points, atleast in a competitive enviroment is the +1 leadership and the +1 Power Fist attack.
A normal grey hunter with fist costs MORE than a WG with Fist, but has one less attack which can be huge. Of course this if offset by the loss of a special weapon when riding in a rhino... but that is what combi-weapons are for

bit of a silly question.
But can you attach a wolf guard to a space wolf unit that already has 10 men?
I presume Space Wolves have no Sarge upgrades either (havent had the chance to look at the codex much)

You need to get the codex, it is explained in the Pack Leader rules.
You can attach a WG to any size GH unit. However, an 10 man squad with attached GH will not fit in a rhino.
OP: Most people seem to like a PFist/Combi Melta WG for GH squads. It really helps supplement the lost second special and the cheaper Fist with 2 base attacks > GH with fist. With a Wulfen in the squad and a Wolf Banner, it is a very viscious squad. Another fun trick is to take 5 WG, give 4 Combi Meltas and a drop pod and the fifth terminator armor and a cyclone launcher. Some people stick him in a pack pf Longfangs, but I prefer to put him in a min GH unit with flamer so that he is with a scoring unit and they can move around and fire missiles. Plus your LFs can fire at 2 targets and he can hit a third with 2 missiles!

Ahh, cool that clears that up
I was also reading about the cyclone M.launcher I'm probably gonna stick mine in my LF w/ a twin lascannon razor back.
I'll probably have to get another box of SW for the set up That I would like to do
I was thinking of having 2 9man GH squads with Meltas with a WG with a combi melta in power armor mounted in rhinos
then a 3rd 5man GH with plasma gun and a wolf guard with a combi plasma mounted in an assault cannon razorback.
I just need to get 4 or so meltas for those squads.
Though for now I'll write this down cause i'm waiting for the SoB release for the plastic SoB for my Female SW scout conversions.
Also for the WG set up is it more versatile to go with a power fist than per say a chain fist, power weapon, frost blade or other power weapon equivlents?

Power fist is relatively cheap and pretty damn powerful, in short it's better.
And far be it for me to question your modeling choices but female SW scouts?

Well when I started my Fox Marines I knew I wanted them to have some Female marines but not all of them at about a 1 to 5 ratio. Though they were gonna show up mostly in the Scouts. So my original Idea was to use Wood Elf Glade Guard, I did a moch up with green stuff and did a resin cast and it turned out ok but I ran into an problem with the scale size of the wood elves and the 40k weapons. So I've had the army on hold sense around july of last year and now with the rumors of the Sisters of battle being redone in plastic the should offer a better base to start off of for the conversion in addition with non elf looking heads to boot. So I'm gonna take notes on an army list for now and wait for the SoB plastics release and see what can be done with them.

Fair enough then...
Fluff nazis are gonna hate it but they will hopefully look awesome.
Wolf Scouts are mainly used in a disruptive, oportunitive role. Using their "Behind enemy Lines" rule they have a good chance on coming in on any board edge.
Equip them with a melta to slag any tanks on the board edge.
Power weapons and meltabombs depend on your local meta IMO but they are always pretty useful as an upgrade but the squad will get expensive for a throwaway unit pretty quickly.

Hell, I'm not that bothered by the Stormraven. Why? Because, as it stands right now, it's "limited use".When it's shoehorned in to the Codex: Space Marines, then yeah. I'll be irked.
