Recently I have been thinking of an idea for a fan fiction book based sorta in the Warhammer series. By sorta I mean it would be based in the present day earth and it would be about the coming attack on the planet earth. What I envision is a scenario where our planet is not the cradle of humanity ( every planet tends to think that after 40,000 years away from contact ) but is just another rock separated during the heresy. Out on the fringes we have grown fat and happy but no longer. The Orks are on the way and the Imperium of man can only offer a little help.

Book 1 starts with first contact by the Inquisition and the Grey Knights to tell us how bad it will be. Back stories include social issues like the fact that all religions are lies and getting the population to agree to be saved. A large part is what as a people we do with prisoners and the elderly as the best forecasted outcomes from the Imperium has over 2 billion people being culled ( hint servitors ). It closes with orbital strikes on 2 countries that refuse to comply and the rest of humanity falling into line to build a Cadian like planet with everyone devoted to the emperor and defense of the planet.
book 2 starts with the meat of the back stories jelling and following 4 main subjects. One is a retired Army Captain who thinks that our salvation lies in high tech weapons instead of mass armies. He launches as crusade to get a walker type weapons system but as usually happens his requirments for people who can think tactically and have good reflexes ( gamers ) is ignored and the flat top perfect human soldiers he is given results in disaster for the project. He is almost shot but another main subject, a Inquisitor, bails him out at the last second and they turn the project around using the captains original ideas. These involve the internet gaming community and a lot of regen therapy for cheese doodle eating dew drinking geeks. The project results in a cheap dreadnaught with the power of a warhound. Other subjects include an imbittered man and his son who form a force in the mountains of South Carolina and decide to fight the orks as best they can with what they have. The end of book 2 has the ork force arrive in system and the Imperium leaves us to our devices with only a small group of Space marines and Inquisitors to observe.
book 3 has the orbital strikes and all the war stuff you would expect from an Ork planet siege. The main focus of the story is in the mountains of South Carolina where a small group of freedom fighters find themselves surrounded by the main Ork HQ. The fighters are in contact via a comm system given to them by the Imperium and are in a position to use the orks main weapon against themselves. The weapon is rage. In a quick strike on the unsuspecting Ork HQ the war leader and most of his cadre are destroyed but the damage looks like it was done by one of the rival ork units. this results in the Orks turning on themselves and within weeks the battle for earth is almost over. book 3 ends with the main planetary units of earth joining the emperium and shipping off to parts unknown to fight and die for the emperor.
the books will follow a 6 year period and as It looks like i will soon have to have a knee replaced i may find myself with 3 weeks of free time and a keyboard. Might just do this thing.....

When you die people will not remember you for how much good you did, but for how much evil you destroyed.

i might read it it sounds good.

Tali'Zorah: I appreciate what you're doing here, Shepard.
Commander Shepard: Well, I care deeply about the quarian people.
Tali'Zorah: It's good to be back on the Normandy.
Commander Shepard: Let me know if it's too quiet for you to sleep, and I'll find you someplace louder.
Tali'Zorah: Hmm.
Garrus Vakarian: Uh, I was there when you two had your thing, remember? Just get a room and work it out.

Uhg, what, a fanfiction where "gamers" are better tacticians than the military?

I would not read this even a little bit. But hey, you are entitled to do whatever you want with your time.

No , most of this makes little sence. Earth is Terra and the rest is just starnge and difficult to Understand , I suggest reading some 40k Fluff on Warhammer 40,000 Wiki or in the Rulebooks.

The biggest indicator someone is a loser is them complaining about 3d printers or piracy.

I don't understand this comment.
I can't name a single Black Library author that has been in the Military. But I can name quite a few that are "gamers" as well as authors.

If you are saying you wouldn't read karmakanik's fanfic soely because of this reason, that would mean you shouldn't read any GW novels.

Dan Abnett and Graham Macneil we never soldiers, but they write good science fiction fantasy about Fake soldiers.

I'm kind of a big deal... people know me...

But my above comments aside, I wouldn't be too interested in an "present day meets 40k badguys" stories.

Present day humanity shouldn't hold a candle to any enemy that can fight and sometimes defeat Space Marines. So if humanity would win in your story it would be a far too unbelievable stretch for me to accept.

I didn't say there were none, just that the ones I knew of weren't.
I read part of Henery Zou's novel about the inquisitor. I didn't finish it, it wasn't my cup of tea

Sorry, but this has "fanboy" written all over it. If you were going to write a serious story about the Imperium coming to modern day Earth and laying claim to it, or a story where there is actually some kind of rational explanation for why they'd decide the geeks have something to offer and why that assumption would be true (like the sci-fi story where peaceful aliens come to humanity because they don't have the mindset to turn a tool into a weapon), it has the potential to be a good story. But you aren't, so it doesn't.

As you may imagine a quick outline does not do much to convey the scope of what the fanFic would contain. some of the concerns that readers of Sci Fi have had for years I also share. I have found an outlet to express my ideas and i think it would be entertaining.

Some mention that Geeks would be commanders. NOT. My idea for the walker pilots comes right from Enders game, a well known classic. Through testing a certain type of person will be better suited to certain military applications. IMO gamers would have the required skills and instead of a 89% washout rate would be about 20%. The fact that the imperium of man would take care of the phisical weakness issue through regen and bio science is another tenant of the 40k universe.
some ask why would the emperium of man only now find the planet? I don't now ask caliban or Cadia or Any number of rocks lost in the paperwork or through the storms of the warp.
One of the most annoying aspects of Sci Fi ( too me ) has always been the " lost science ) aspect. We have the lost technology aspect all over 40k. Ever wonder how a tank can have a fusion plant and plazma guns and have a range that an m1 Abrams would laugh at? I wonder all the time how a " cogitator " can direct magnetic bottle containment to a degree needed for a nuke plant on a tank but can not do the math needed to hit a battlewagon from 4,oo meters down range. We have predator drones with hellfire missles that have 98% kills on heavy armour from 12,000 meters horizontal and 4000 meters verticle and yet a davastator marine still totes an RPG ? I wanted to write some fanfic to meld real weapons systems with 40k fluff.
I think it will be fun and a fun read
Anyways thanks for the responses PEACE!

Im sorry but this is just ridiculous , do you know anything about 40k? If you don't like the fluff dont read it and don't make up stupid ideas that are ridiculous. Your Comparing Weapons that have been outdated and out classed by those of 40k by several thousand years.

You know nothing about 40k fluff, your conclusions regarding actual statistics compared to 40k are all wrong, and your idea (in the opinions of all the posters here) sucks.

So, that went well.

I was going to just remove the posts here from those who apparently are incapable of giving feedback without being rude, but since the OP decided to descend to the same level, this thread is done.
