I think it's just that they didnt pay that much attention to correct assembly back then, as both models are kind of dated.

Yep, that bike gun is definitely wonky! how funny i've never picked things like that up before, I suppose because we see them all the time we just don't 'see' things like it as we never really look at the models anymore as they are too familiar to us all as hobbyists.
