The idea was that tournaments are unbalanced due to lack of knowledge of the scenario and opponent.
The "All Comers List" is the result, and it is also why certain builds and certain armies are so popular.
The author's idea was to set up a tournament where you announce the scenario and the opponent's army, then players create lists and play.
Rinse and repeat each round.
That would add a good bit of time to what's usually a tight schedule.
I like the idea but propose an adjustment.
I am in a 1750 trny tomorrow so I will use that as an example.
1750 3 round tournament with reinforcements. Create a 1750 list, but add information for 4 reinforcement units that can alter your list during the tournament. The point limit is still 1750 for each round, but you change your list by substituting units from your reinforcement list. You may also change up to 75 points worth of equipment within the list to make your points come out even.
Here are the 3 scenarios we will use.
Rnd 1 scenario - blah, blah, blah
Rnd 2 scenario - blah, blah, blah
Rnd 3 scenario - blah, blah, blah
Prior to the first round and between each of the rounds, players will be informed of the race of the opposing army for that round. At that time each player submits their roster to the tournament manager, and the round will comence. Players will be allowed no more than 10 minutes to submit new lists, otherwise the original 1750 list must be used.
You still wouldn't know the composition of your opponent's list, but you would at least know the race, and the scenario. From that you can make adjustments, and put your best army on the table.
