So I am considering my 2nd army as IG. I kind of like a mix Air Cav/Mechanized list much like a blitzkrieg style utilizing tanks and planes. I am fortunate that a local gaming store has the big APOC box with 10 LRBTs I am considering buying to help save on costs. Mix in some hydra action since they seem to be very nice, chimeras as well.

Thus, After having thus successively taken each member of the community in its powerful grasp and fashioned him at will, the supreme power then extends its arm over the whole community. It covers the surface of society with a network of small complicated rules, minute and uniform, through which the most original minds and the most energetic characters cannot penetrate, to rise above the crowd. The will of man is not shattered, but softened, bent, and guided; men are seldom forced by it to act, but they are constantly restrained from acting. Such a power does not destroy, but it prevents existence; it does not tyrannize, but it compresses, enervates, extinguishes, and stupefies a people, till each nation is reduced to nothing better than a flock of timid and industrious animals, of which the government is the shepherd

What IG Army were you thinking of? Cadian, Catachan, or something more exotic?

The apoc box is nice, but it is 10 old style ones so less options. On the plus side though, they look better and get the accessory sprue, so probably worth it for the price.

I really like think Catachan look awesome for an airborne army. If I went with Cadians I would do a more urban camo style greys and blacks and the like. I do like Vostroyan and Death Corp but really prefer plastic.

If you're looking for Catachans you can have lots of fun modelling them as 'Nam Air Cav.
Good find on the Apoc Tank box...I've been tempted to get one of those, but 10 Vanilla Russes seems a bit boring to me...I like my tank company with more variety

on that apoc box you could get it and just spend like 30 cents on the bitz on a website if you wanted to go with a variety in LR varients. Have you consider an all plastic I'm going to take fifteen minutes to move my army all infantry army? aircav/mechvet is SO overdone.

I have, I am a big fan of Ailaros's blog. The problem is I currently have a foot slogging ork army. So I do want some variety and if I introduce someone to the game with the 2 armies it would be pretty cool to be balanced and simple but it would take forever moving all those guys.

The APoc box is just that. You will never have a situation in regular 40k where you will need 10 Leman Russes (unles you're doing an armoured company).
I'd recommend selling some of the Leman Russes...get some extra cash for your infantry. You should be able to get $10~20 for each spare chassis.

Thanks for the advice. All I also play Orks and now that I think about they would make good konversions, looted wagons with boom guns, chop em up and add an open top cage and deffrollas for some battle wagon action.

You really think they look better than the new ones? I mean, I love the old ones too, but the new turrets look a lot beefier, and the new heavy bolters aren't so goofy looking. I'd be lying if I didn't say almost all mine were the old style though
I have somewhere around 9 Leman Russes and I love them. Doing a blitzkrieg-style army is very viable! There's a guy here with a Vietnam-style Guard army that you should check out.

Well the 6 that I have all have some minor conversions. The lascannons all got converted to baneblade flamers for a while and then back to lascannons using the HWT sprue, it looks a bit better than the original las. The bolters are a bit odd but the old turret is far better, the front light bit looks better and the back stowage bit is really nice too. I wouldn't want any more (the tracks.... they burn my mind...) but I love the ones I have.
The old part metal demolisher is better than the new one too, as long as you don't mind the fixed cannon and no options. Mine is a squadron command tank for 2 new ones, with a banner, old cadian commander in the cupola and some eagle covered baneblade panels to cover up the glue marks from ripping the sponsons off. It is my favourite tank, the metal armour on the turret is nice.
