I've had this model since the early 90's and I've always wondered if it was an original GW piece? At the time GW was still shipping lead, this is not lead but black pewter possibly? Picked it up in a gift shop in WI Dells case was filled with pewter figures of all types.

I've never seen a GW figure from that era that wasn't on a slotta, also all the pre-slottas I've seen had totally solid bases not with a hollow like the one in your pic.

My strong suspicion is that it's a recast especially if you picked it up from a gift shop that heaps of them. The shop didn't recast it, some long-forgotten company churning out little novelty figures probably did.

Looks like a recast. Original would have had a slotta base and while your picture isn't the best the detail looks a little "soft"

3500 pts Iron Warriors
2500 pts World Eaters

I would agree with this. Though I am no expert on the matter, perhaps the folk at barterTown could help you out.

Out of curiosity, why did you wish to know?

Are you planning to re-sell, or just curious whther you have stumbled upon a lucky strike?

I was leaning toward recast or maybe a specialty limited production item for a con or WD give away something like that. Mostly curious I've had it for a long time.

The base and laspistol make me think it's a recast. GW haven't done built-in bases like that since the early 80s, before they were doing Warhammer minis. It's probably mostly lead anywho. The model it's cast from is an Eldar warlock or farseer.

The Laspistol was on the original model. The integral base definitely screams recast, though.

Eldar still often had lasguns/laspistols all through 2nd ed. My 3rd ed army was built from 2nd ed-era models, and a bunch of them (including all the Banshees) have laspistols.

Agree with Insaniak. I have that model in my Eldar army, but he's on a slotta, and GW had gone completely over to slottas years before any of the Eldar were sculpted.

Recast. Even special edition con models had slotted bases. The only one that didnt was a diorama one off the top of my head. Thats more and more looking like a recast.

Hope more old fools come to their senses and start giving you their money instead of those Union Jack Blood suckers...

I will echo what the others are saying. It's an old Eldar model that has been recast. I have several of those models (my very first army was Eldar) Back in the days of White Dwarf 127, Eldar used lots of laspistols, lasrifles, lascannons, in addition to the standard fare of these days, Shuriken catapults.

Oh it IS an Eldar Warlock.

Original series circa 1992. That much is certain.
The base is the issue, as all of the Eldar minis were slottabased, and not cast with an integral base.

The minor detail that there is no maker's mark inside the cavity in the base also points towards recast.

I have Ral Partha minis that age with bases like that that still have the maker's mark inside the base cavity, and a couple of other companies that did similar things. No mark does not in and of itself conclusively state that it is a recast - but the chances of it not being one are slim.

Good point.

Makers Mark... totally forgot that.

The Ral Partha minis I have on bases like that have "Ral Partha" and the year the original was made (198x).

These have NO such markings.

The maker's mark is nowhere near as descriptive as a hallmark, but it is generally accepted that at least a copyright (c) and year with initials would be there.

That's a knock off. All gw 28mm minis were slottabase by this time.

that's a warlock i don't have, and haven't been able to find anywhere, if you decide you want to get rid of it please let me know, as i don't care if it's recast or not. it'll simply add to the collection i have that so far has almost all of the warlocks and farseers produced with the exception of the bug eye boy, which i hate the looks of. I'll even go so far as to trade you a new warlock/ farseer if you want one to replace it with.
