Hey guys,

Fairly new to this and my mate who plays SM (Salamanders usually) has been whipping my **** everytime. I'm playing him on Monday so was looking for some advice/feedback on my list (he is on Dakka so hopefully he won't be checking posts this weekend!). I think my previous lists and tactics have been pretty soft to be honest (i.e. tactics non existent and jump playing models cos I had them or I thought they looked good)

Eldrad
Farseer, Doom, Fortune, Stones, Spear

2* 5 FD
WS+SL+SC

2* 9DA+Exarch, 2*SC + BS
WS+SL+SC

3 GJB + SC
1 Warlock on JB, spear, Destructor

WL + EML + BL

3 * WW w/ 2* SL

2 DR + Exarch w/ Tempest launcher

Then I have 75pts to spend on either another squad of 3 GJB or a Vyper + BL

All thoughts welcome!

Thanks

Chimp

Dude, are you on the way to something important? It would be easier to read if you typed some things out. Some acronyms shorten a sentence nicely, nothing but acronyms is a mess.

I don't think you need Eldrad and a farseer, take one or the other.

I am not a proponent of the underslung shuriken cannon on vehicles, but it's your choice. Aside from that your elites and troops look fine. Only quibble is that DA are often a bit weak against marines. Use them cautiously.

I can see the point of DR if you know you're facing marines, and war walkers are always good. Wraithlord is a bit out of place, he's a bit isolated as you have no seer you really want tied to him. I'd swap the wraithlord for more war walkers, just hit your opponent hard and fast with firepower - scatter laser his transport, FD his main tanks, and run rings around his infantry.

If you have any points left still after those changes, a second onjective-claimer GJB squad is the way to go, 3 scoring units is a bit light at 2k.

Good luck in your game!

I agree, a little repetitive on the farseers, otherwise I think you'd be fine. Just watch out for dedicated assault armies because you lack a bit of combat power, which would hopefully be mitigated by your mobility.

Haha I was actually just going out when I typed the post and wondered what it would read like, but the Mrs was nagging me to get a move on!

Thanks for the feedback. I'll let you know how it goes. Might even see if i can put up a battle report.

I would advise dropping the farseer and putting in Yriel, Granted you do lose some theme, but you gain a combat monster, and he works especially well as a counter to assault units, especially when hes with some fortuned Dire Avengers (exarch with a shimmershield), and running into a doomed squad, he then blows up, you do suffer heavy casualties... but hey, wipes them out more than not!

You should be taking embolden on your Warlock with the bikes. Destructor is a good power in lower point games, but in the 1000+ realm you need to focus on the extra survivability that embolden offers. Leadership 8 isn't all that good, and being able to re roll it goes a long way at keeping your jetbikes from falling 3d6 off the board. At this point level you should be using your bikes to zip about, providing light anti vehicle where necessary, and then zooming off to an objective. 3 man bike squads are excellent harass / late game objective grabber units, but they don't want to be in destructor range.

I'm also not a huge fan of the Lord + Reapers.

These are to very static units, in an otherwise extremely fast list. The lord also almost requires a psycher nearby or it risks nearly a 16% chance of doing nothing every turn!

I would swap out the lord and reapers for a pair of fire prisms. Fire Prisms can move 12 inches, and shoot their guns, just a good tank in general. If you have the points giving them holofields can be a great investment to let them soak damage.

I agree that the second farseer isn't worth it. but I don't recomend Yriel. Yes, he is a bad ass, but hes t3 and very easy to instant death. He does have some interesting tricks up his sleeve, but generally suffers from not having a good body guard.

You should probably get a second jetbike squad to get 4 troops, and then possibly another dragon wagon.

good luck

My main motivation for talking the Lord was to get some strength 8 BS 4 on the board. If he were to bring 2 raiders with termies then I didn't want to be relying on my FDs to take them down. What do you think?

I totally get the extra farseer vs something to give my army a bit more survivability in close quarters argument though. DO we think Pheonix lords are totally worthless?

Well the Dragons can reliably deal with the Land Raiders, and you should be killing the Terminators with massed S6 shooting.

I would recommend at least a couple of Bright Lances on your Serpents to give you some long ranged heavy AT rather than using the Wraithlord in that role. The Serpents last longer, don't waste points (the EML doesn't do anything against AV14 and isn't great against AV13), are slightly more accurate with T/L BS3 rather than BS4 and you are going to be taking them anyway so its any easy upgrade.

Yes the Phoenix Lords are terrible unfortunately, Eldar HQ options are basically limited to Eldrad, a standard Farseer or a near naked Autarch. Even the Avatar is only borderline competitive, partly because there is so much stuff which can kill him and partly because he doesn't work well in a Mech list because he can't keep up, but Foot Eldar is terrible.

Another scoring unit would probably be the best thing to add, ideally with Embolden so they stick around. I don't actually think there is anything wrong with Destructor in a minimum sized unit of Jetbikes, but if you do that you really need to be spamming them and pushing a MSU list. Your Heavy slots probably need a bit of work (all slow/static units in an otherwise mech list), but otherwise its pretty solid.

Thanks for your help guys. I went with 2 prisms and 3 walkers in the end. Kept the farseer (though admittedly did note plenty of duplication!) and gave the prisms holofields so didn;t have enough for the vyper but did squeeze in the extra 3 man GJB squad. Batrep posted
