My friend wanted to start playing Guard, and he wanted to know if he should buy it. What do you guys think?

I have bought 2, and as long as I need more IG I will go on buying them - they are more cost-efficient than buying the infantry boxes seperately, and the sentinel you can just treat as a bonus. The only reason to buy any IG infantry NOT in a battalion box is if you specifically need more HWTs.

Automatically Appended Next Post:
Should have said, obviously anyone playing IG will need at least 1, better with 2 battalion boxes' worth of infantry for their troops and HQ choices.

The Imperial Guard battleforce is (AFAICR) the only one except the Tau one that can make a legal army straight out of the box.

Thanks for help . Also, I guess the only difference between Cadian and Catachan Battleforces is models, right?

You are correct, although the different Battle Forces have different additional extras on the sprues, but model gamewise, identical.

nids and orks are legal right out of the battle force box to
use 2 of the wars as primes
use 2 of the bikers as biker bosses

When i first started guard 4 months ago I bought 3 Battleforces. Now i dont think that buying all at once is necessarily a good idea, but the box itself is a very good idea!

The IG battleforce is absolutely worth it - it's the most cost-effective way to fill out your platoons you can find.

In the grim darkness of the far future, there are only rules disputes.

Going by that any battle force can be legal, since you just take one Decked out Marine out of any Marine BF to make your Commander or take one of the guardians and give it some avenger bling to make an autarch.

AFAIK the only Battle forces with intended HQ choices are:

Ravenwing Battle Force (The Ravenwing Sprue contains the upgrades to make the Master of Ravenwing, and the bikes can be split into 2 squads of 3)
Nids Battle Force (Warriors are intended to be primes)
IG Battle Force (Command Squad, nuff said)
Tau Battle Force (Battle Suit)

Everything else requires conversions or at least kitbashing.

Hell, I'm not that bothered by the Stormraven. Why? Because, as it stands right now, it's "limited use".When it's shoehorned in to the Codex: Space Marines, then yeah. I'll be irked.
