Go to www.classicbattletech.com and look in the forums. There is a section of the forums dedicated to MechWarrior: Dark Age players.

I have a crap load of it, but I don't play anymore. I could if I wanted to, I easily have a half dozen factions with more than 8000 points. And that doesn't include Gunslingers/mercenaries...
But yeah, the Battletech forums have a few dedicated posters. And we'll always take more. Hopefully we can turn you to the hexes as well...

My room mates and I have about 75000 (that's thousand) points worth of stuff. We've taken to using an Epic 40,000 detachment rules. We play our games on 8x4 tables using entire galaxies of mechs with supporting infantry and such.
It's a fun game. Shame that no one plays it and instead goes for heroclix and the like.

I have taken all my Mechwarrior stuff and am using it for Armor Grid Games "Mech Attack". Faster than MW and no broken artillery (I quit MW because no one would field mechs - just hordes and hordes of artillery). The best $6 I've ever spent on a rules set.

The game was broken even before artillery got out of hand. A lot of people I played chose very fast 'Mechs and just charged all the time. Because the shooting ranges were so short players could often charge you before you could shoot them. I remember many games that were more like smash-up derby than BattleTech. All the guns and missiles were wasted because all the 'Mechs were just running around crashing into each other without firing a single shot.
I had over 10 000 points of MW: DA stuff and the 'Mechs were beautifully done. My favourite was a white Mad Cat II assault 'Mech. In the end, however, I literally gave it all away to my brother's friend because the gameplay was just awful and I couldn't stand it any more.

i think i know what madcat you're talking about: was it "the heat"?
my favorite that i have is jaqueline tadaka's legionnaire: with a big machine gun for a head. i just glued it back together. again. i haven't played much, but when i find the rules in my basement, i will probably play with my family. i have two atlii (plural for atlas?), and many, many missing miniatures. i must excavate further!

I played up through version 2.0, and then part way into that. Yeah, it had a lot of failings through various phases of the game (range on weapons was always to short for one): capturing hover bikes, BR Lego infiltrate+charge, arty+vtol, heat dials to short or wierd, charging/ramming power. 2.0 saw some nice improvements (move and shoot) which were badly needed, but by that point to much bad water under the bridge.
That said, it wasn't a bad idea, and if you play for fun it can be an enjoyable game.
It just suffers what many sci-fi games suffer from: the why use a gun when I can bash you with a rock itis (not unlike 40k).

I had a bunch of Mechwarrior mechs for a while, I was going to use them for a larger scale mech game with the "mech attack" rules, or something similar.
I ended up selling them. Automatically Appended Next Post: Maniac_nmt wrote:

I agree on that. Although the imagery of awesome CC weapons is fun, modern tech has nearly done away with melee combat, and as time advances I see no reason why that wouldnt continue to be. Simple fact is as technology allows enemies to be detected easier and at longer ranges, very little will survive to close combat. Nothing more than a good knife will likely ever be needed again.
That being said, when I make my custom terminator models, I love to use the thunder hammers, power fists, and axes. Simply because they look great.
A quote from the Gamma Knights board game expansion for the old Gamma World RPG from TSR sums it up:
"By the 22nd century, survival on the battlefield had become an elaborate game of electronic cat-and-mouse. The soldier's most important weapons were not lasers or bombs but the sensors he used to pinpoint the enemy. The kill capability of infantry weapons increased to the point where any target which could be located could be destroyed."
We are quickly working toward that reality.

Well, it largely suffered as it went to far away from Battletech (predominance of CC, infantry, non mech items).
Pushing was a bad idea, stagnancy (move or shoot), short weapon ranges, etc.
The idea wasn't bad, and if you make certain adjustments in home games it works well (half move and shoot for vehicles and mechs, double ranges...).
If all else fails, there are some lovely sculpts that can be salvaged for painting (I have gotten rid of almost everything, but have kept many of the classic mechs to paint, sans their bases though).

I lamented the fact that it had too few traditional bread and butter units from 3025/6 and 3050 and those it had were not recognisable, even allowing for the unseen.
Playing 'supersized' Battletech with clickytech mechs is fine if you allow for the derth of real mechs available or do a lot of kitbashing.
